We visit this place every time we are in town. We are never let down by the broad selection of donuts!This may be a small restaurant, but it sure puts out high output of gourmet Donuts. The flavors change by the hour! From plain glazed donuts to extravagant somoa donuts (with caramel and toasted coconut) to luscious selections like apple pie and red velvet cake, this is the location to try gourmet donuts anytime of day!There are certainly times of the day when you will find yourself waiting in line for these desirable treats. While that may be the case, I can promise you two things: The friendly staff take care of the line in an expeditious manner and the donuts are well worth the wait!If you are a coffee lover, this is a great place to try one of their gourmet cold-brewed coffees. There is a vast selection including the wonderful mocha Frappuccino that rivals the best Cafe!This place is definitely deserving of 5 stars if not just for the donuts, then for the friendly staff and hip environment. You can even throw in your suggestions for new flavors and toppings! There are only a few tables in the restaurant so make sure to get there early and stay for a coffee and donut (dont worry, the donuts travel just fine!). My only real complaint: there is not a Sugar Shack location close enough to me!!

Coffee wasnt hot. Tables were dirty despite no one else being in the store, so not exactly too busy to clean. Donut was ok, but the amount of bacon on the maple bacon donut was pitiful.

Definitely worth checking out. $17 and up for a dozen donuts is a little steep for me; however, the donuts do look very different, crazy, big, and delicious. I paid $13 for six and they were good. Quaint atmosphere but rather tricky to get in and out due to its location. Definitely a place Id take an out of town visitor to.

It was ok. Wasnt impressed with customer service, but the display was incredibly beautiful. Didnt really enjoy the donuts as they didnt really taste that fresh or moist, and had a LOT of stuff on them.

I cant say enough good things about my experience! The donuts were awesome and the service was absolutely amazing!

I think this location is closed because their number on their web is not a working number and have been shut down for quite some time now. I wish they’d open back up.

The best donuts in and around Richmond!! A busy place early in the week morning. Super, highly original, always fresh. Both young and older seem to frequent sugar shack. If you visit once, you will definitely return. Great dark roast and regular coffee too!

Very inventive flavors. They seemed good but most where heavily iced with a multitude of toppings which is not to my taste. I like my doughnuts plainer.

My favorite place to get a cup of coffee (and the doughnuts are all right, too!) The staff here have never been anything but kind, accommodating, and pleasant, and everything they serve is delicious. They are always very forthright with me regarding food preparation with regard to my nut allergies, as well. Im happy to be a regular here.

Want to be more popular at work? Pick up Sugar Shack on your way in one morning. It worked for me and it can work for you too. When I said I was taking them to work, they offered to make their own variety box for me, and that helped a lot.I love all of the varieties they have to offer. They are easily my favorite donuts in Richmond.

This is my go-to Donut shop. The selection is amazing and it is nice to see them being prepared in the rear of the shop. Whether it is for an Open House that Im holding or for a treat for myself & my family I love them. Not inexpensive but worth the journey. Great staff and easy parking.

Pricey, yes. But if you want to know what a donut could taste like, soooo worth it!!!! These donuts are crafted in individual flavors and as soon as you bite into them its a feast in your mouth. Wish they had had a little room to sit down at in the tiny shop, so my friend and I could have enjoyed their coffee also. That was the only downside.

Fresh donuts with a side of creativity. Expect more than just your standard icings and sprinkles (though they have those too.) My personal favorite is their old-fashioned but Sugar Shack is well known for their maple icing.

The toppings are fun but the actual doughnuts are very bland. The cake doughnuts are not bad, and its a good place to grab a coffee, but the main draw leaves something to be desired.

They need to update their hours. The front door sign says they will be open as of June 9th. But locked up and they maybe just closing this location. I wouldnt have made the trip down if anything on Google said they were not here. 😡

I was excited to try these Donuts out but they were out of a lot of flavors. the one that I wanted ended up being really good I just had to ask for it from somewhere else because it was next to Coconut I think that certain allergens should be kept separately like they have peanut Donuts touching other donuts and they have different things like that but thats personal thats not any reflection on how good these Donuts are

Donuts were good but packaging left a lot to be desired. Our 3 donuts ordered to go were placed in a bag. Most of the caramel topping came off on the paper leaving the mostly bare donuts looking not very appetizing.

I like it here always quality food & service. i had a brother come into town and asked me to take him back here. food and atmosphere reminds me of kansas city.

Expect to grab and go or sit in your car and enjoy. They have excellent donuts, love the classic cinnamon sugar or any of the cake donuts - though they always run out of red velvet.

I really love this place. The donuts are superbly awesome. When I go there I make sure to purchase for me and my children. I also love their iced chai latte with my choice of donuts. Ive noticed that this is a busy establishment. Everyone seems to go there. They get a thumbs up from me for the food as well as the customer service.

Sugar Shack is one of several sort of gourmet donut establishments around Richmond. Some things to know before you go if youve never been:1: There is no list of flavors. The kitchen basically makes up every batch on the fly from what I understand, so the only way to know whats currently available is are is to ask one of the employees whats in the main case. These can range from old-fashioned cake donuts or a classic chocolate frosted donut with sprinkles, to huge specialty donuts modeled off of Girl Scout cookie flavors (Samoa and Thin Mint, for example).2: They get busy. Predictably, theyre busiest in the morning and the parking lot isnt huge, but it is kind of a pain to get into just because of the way the intersection traffic is set up. If youre not going northbound on Parham, or able to get in that lane, youll have to turn around by going into one a parking lot of one of the nearby businesses.They also have a lot of coffee and tea options! The coffee is very good from what Ive heard, but I can tell you they have a small but diverse range of high quality loose leaf to choose from as well as some solid iced tea.

Second time I’ve been turned away because they didn’t make enough donuts. Literally only had a dozen donuts in the window with 6 people in line. Donuts are amazing though, wish I could be enjoying one while writing this review.

First time, after reading Yelp app, great donuts and coffee in the Richmond area, and beyond. Highly recommend for donuts and coffee lovers.

Amazing service. Really cool selection with basic donuts and flavors that make you go wwwhhhattt!? i need that! i really liked the layout of the parking lot which sounds weird but some of the surrounding parking lots are not fun. It was nice and quiet inside and very welcoming. The donuts were so delicious. My toddler exclaimed that they were so freakin good!

Everyone I know loves these doughnuts, only problem is they run out of the best ones so early.

Best donuts place in Richmond. Its a little confusing because they dont label their flavors, but the people there will explain their flavors for you. There are lots and they change often, but the maple bacon is one of my favorites and they seem to always have it.

This was my first and possibly last visit. The young lady that assisted me was extremely upbeat, welcoming and knowledgeable, she answered all my questions and suggested a few donuts. Needless to say, I wasnt impressed. Visually, the donuts look delicious, however upon my first bite, I knew Id made a mistake. The donuts are extremely heavy, its my understanding that some are cake donuts and others are homestyle donuts. It was difficult for me to chew several of the donuts, they were extremely chewy, weird. However, I liked the oreo donut, but the rest were too chewy and/or extremely sweet.

Nice atmosphere, clean. Short staffed tonight, but they were friendly and efficient. Donuts werent to my taste, unfortunately but everyone else liked them

TLDR: Always delivers the best coffee. We have been coming here most days for the last couple of weeks. Australian expat who is used to pricey but gourmet coffee and just cant find the same in the US. I love Sugar Shacks medium cap- consistently good, comes with two shots, MUCH better than starbucks and much easier on the wallet :). I typically skip the doughnuts as theyre pricey and have been told there are better places to go.

I like the variety of donuts that are available here. My only complaint is that the donuts often are too big and toppings fall off too easily. Especially with the toppings that are chocolate crust. Their coffee is pretty good, not too bitter. My favorite donut is probably the maple bacon donut. Even when the bacon manages the fall off the donut it still lands in my mouth.

Stoped in during the convention for doughnuts and was not disappointed. Everything we ordered was delicious. The only issue I had was accidentally sitting under a leaking spot in the ceiling.

They ran out of donuts??????? What, drove waaaay out of my way to get donuts and they didn’t have any. When they do have them they are very good.

Gross tasting donuts, they only care about whats on the outside of the donut (the look of the donut). And last time i was there i noticed something disgusting, an employee was outside smoking and when she returned in she did NOT wash her hands before touching donuts! That is digusting. I much rather have duck donuts, light fluffy donut with a vareity of flavors and always get the best customer service at duck. Employees at sugar shack dont seem to care about their job enough. I went to sugar shack over the weekend and got donuts and coffee for my wife and kids. The donuts were pretty good, but the drip coffee was nothing special. I finished my coffee and went back up to get a refill, and they charged me full price to get another cup of drip coffee. There was nothing posted that said they didnt offer free refills on drip coffee. Every other restaurant Ive been to that sells drip coffee offers free refills or has a sign or notice stating they dont provide free refills for drip coffee. When I contacted them about this, instead of saying sorry youre disappointed, but we dont offer free refills, they insulted me implying I was an idiot for assuming they would offer free refills and then followed up with a very snarky the customer isnt ALWAYS right. Well this customer wont be coming back.So if you like donuts with a side of insults and attitude, Sugar Shack is your place.

Went to the sugar shack in Richmond and with my three year old. We walked in and it was OK looking. We ordered our donuts and then I realized how disgusting the entire restaurant looked. If I had not had a three-year-old with me who was already holding and eating his doughnut I would’ve walked out.All the tables were covered in crumbs and stuff crusted onto them. Even after attempting to wipe off the table it was still dirty because there was stuff attached with icing that was rock hard. The floor was covered in crumbs and icing. The roof was actually leaking and they had two buckets on the floor catching the water that was dripping down. The trash was overflowing. I didn’t dare go to the bathroom but my husband had to and he said the bathrooms were bad. If I had known all of this before my three-year-old started eating his doughnut we would not have stayed! I honestly didn’t even want to eat my doughnut once I realized how gross it was in the restaurant but I felt super guilty since my three-year-old was already eating his so I did. And honestly it was an alright donut. I was just nauseated given the conditions of the restaurant.A good side note we did not get sick from eating a doughnut. I was sincerely worried.

So I ordered the maple bacon donut. The service was okay at but no warm greating no lables the sign says to ask but the young lady behind the service counter was snippy. As for the donut the icing had no maple flavor to speak of just plain royal icing with coloring the bacon was good and the donut was good but the icing really was subpar... will not be returning
