Dana and Extra Space Storage on Dabney Rd were outstanding this weekend. We were working on cleaning out, reorganizing and moving our stuff into a larger unit. Dana came through with a larger unit only a few doors down and got us set up very quickly. We enjoyed her helpful attitude. Extra Space is always clean when we come in and we never have a problem with gates, doors, or elevators and there has always been a cart to use.

The manager at this location, Alissa, is the best. Professional, pleasant, helpful, and speedy. When she says shes going to do something, its done! She helped us reserve additional storage units that were not only on the same floor but right near the one we already had. We were super grateful for that!! And this location is kept immaculately clean. I feel very secure having my belongings there.

Alyssa made renting a unit super easy. She was knowledgeable, and was thorough in the way that she answered questions before I asked them, and answered questions that I didn’t even know that I had. The whole process took less than 10 minutes. She was very efficient.

Dana was very helpful and attentive. She provided options and costs. We then took a tour to review 2 units. The building was clean and easy to access from multiple points. The process was very smooth.

I rented a small storage space from them for about 3 years. I hardly went there during that time. During that time my rent increased about 25 dollars and the switched companies about halfway through. Originally, I had no problems with the staff there but since the change in ownership, with the exception of a few, the staff currently working there can be unfriendly. For example, I called to see when my payment was due in October, and was told repeatedly it was due on the 1st. Finally I was able to get the exact date of the 15th when I told them I was moving out. The place is clean, well lit and you have to punch in your security code at least twice to get into the facility.

The facility and employees are great. Entering the long individualized passcode to go up the elevator was a pain, considering the 1st floor doesn’t have this issue. I shopped around at a number of facilities to find what worked best for my belongings at the time and this ESS made the most sense. Of course the monthly rate was the most important for me. Shortly after moving in, the rate increased without much for notification (only an email that I missed, if that). The contract should maintain the original rate until after a customer moves out, not whenever the owner/manager feel they can squeeze out more, knowing it’s too much of a pain to relocate to a different facility. Apartment/house rentals don’t bump up rates once you’ve moved into the place. This should be no different unless after possibly a 6mo or 1yr usage of the space and prior notice of this possibility.Alyssa did remedy a small discrepancy upon moving out which was definitely appreciated. Thank you!

Edited: I first gave this place five stars, but as they say, wish I could give no stars. I rented a 10 x 10 with them in 5/21 and in 9/21, they have jacked up the price $80 per month. They get you after you have your unit full, then BAM - charge you $80 a month without notification to even ensure you have enough money to cover the charge. Just don’t do it!!!Extra Space is like the Cadillac of storage facility. Customer service is so helpful. The facility is actually climate controlled (some say they are, but aren’t). The facility is kept immaculate. I can’t so enough good things about them.

I am giving this location 2 stars only because the unit itself was very nice and it was easy to access. I first came in about 20 minutes to close and the front desk associate was vey quick in getting my paper work done. The only caveat was that she failed to mention multiple things because she was rushing to close. She mentioned a grace period that was never given. She also failed to tell me about how the end of the months prorate worked. This miscommunication caused ALOAD of problems the following month. I only needed the unit for one month which was stated when I signed the paperwork. I was charged for the next month even after stating that. When I called to get this reversed I was told I would not be able to get the full amount refunded. This was very confusing since I did not need nor use the unit for that month. Allyssa was very unhelpful in this situation and its unfortunate they treat their customers this way.

You know they would have gotten five stars if they had just not held out on the o hidden insurance cost. Why do they have to tell you oh it cost you this much and then you have to pay this insurance fee we didnt tell you about until the last minute. Companies that engage in bait and switch should not be allowed to engage in business absolutely.This place was clean I was only for three weeks and I moved out they didnt offer to prorate my months rent apparently it really is all about the money.

This company is great. Dana helped me out opening my lock when i forgot my key and had already reserved the Uhaul and everything. She definitely went above and beyond to drill the lock open for me and I appreciate her efforts in helping me that day!

I had called and visited the Midlothian building trying to get unit I could afford as I will be needing for several months. They offered options for a different location.Dana and Alissa were extremely helpful and friendly.

Super clean. Considerate staff. Very helpful when I needed to extend my rental. Best prices around. Only one issue. When we were using the elevator to unload, elevator suddenly dropped a floor before catching. Very scary but staff did not shut it down immediately as I would have expected.

Had to call to make a last minute reservation, both representatives I spoke to were very helpful and pleasant and got me the space I needed at the Dabney location within minutes. 10/10 would storage again

Bait and Switch- These guys change my rate with no notice from $210 to $260 after being there for only four months. You cant trust this company, they are snakes and ill be dealing with them.

This was my first experience using a storage space unit and Alyssa was very kind and patient with me on the phone. The price to sign up is $25 but the first month is completely free, which I think is great.Extra Space makes your items feel really safe. You receive a code that is specific to you that you have to enter before you reach your storage unit. Once at the gate, once at the door, and lastly to operate the elevator. Extra Space provides carts to make the movement of heavier objects easier to transport to your unit.I can truly say Im impressed so far with Extra Space. The storage space was clean and the space was more than sufficient for the accommodation of all my items.

DO NOT RENT HERE. I rented a unit here for about two months over the summer and my unit was broken into. Multiple items were taken and boxes and bags were visibly rummaged through with items being left in different places from where I left them. My unit was locked, and I had the keys with me in a different state and I did not share my code with anyone. I immediately informed the employee in the office who was working when I discovered this and she told me they didn’t have any cameras within the building, only on the outside and there was nothing they could do but file with insurance. I paid for the insurance that they recommended during my whole lease term, and it has done me no good. The insurance company has completely ghosted me and is hiding under the cover of needing to show forced entry. As if you can’t learn how to pick a lock in 2 minutes on YouTube or the items in my unit grew legs and walked away while I was in a different state. Whatever you do, do not rent from here. Something suspicious is going on and you should not feel comfortable leaving your possessions here because if something goes wrong, they are useless and will not help you! Richmond has tons of storage facilities - I highly recommend you store somewhere else!!

Management handled the rental process in a courteous and professional manner, including recommendations on how to save money while still renting the space I needed. The facility is brand new, clean and so easy to use. I recommend Extra Space on Dabney Road in Richmond, Va without hesitation.

This is my first time renting storage space anywhere, and I’m so glad that “Extra Space Storage” was my first pick. Their prices are so much cheaper than most other facilities in the RVA area. Plus Every space is climate controlled. Usually you would have to pay extra for that type of thing.

If I could say negative stars, if give them a million times negative!!My unit was broken into not even a MONTH after move-in. Its been two weeks since insurance adjuster started the investigation and have yet to be reimbursed for the things stolen! i was blamed by the office for my unit being broken into, yet couldnt tell me how it was broken into, considering I was on the third floor and you need a passcode to get in and out, also your passcode ONLY works for the floor youre on! Cameras everywhere, but couldnt tell me who broke in just that it was my fault for not having a lock on my unit. I have a strong gut feeling that they either 1. knew who broke in 2. broke in themselves 3. absolutely dont care about you or your belongings.I immediately canceled my space there and was told that I WILL NOT be charged for this upcoming month for storage as long as my belongings were out by NOVEMBER 29TH and GUESS WHAT?! I WAS CHARGED ANOTHER MONTH OF STORAGE AND HAVE NOT BEEN REIMBURSED FOR MY BELONGINGS. Im calling Better Business Bureau to start an investigation as well as Legal Aid for help to prosecute this business in court for failure to reimburse stolen property, charging accounts that was cancelled, and refusing to show camera footage of the break-in!DO NOT RENT HERE. EVER. FIND A BETTER PLACE. IT IS NOT WORTH IT

This a very large storage facility! My space was super clean and well lit with ample security key pads. I wouldve given 5 stars but there are no signs to give you an idea where the range of numbers are. It took me a while to find my space.

All I can say is take pictures of everything, check regularly and get insurance even if you keep it temporarily. ******)Yesterday Dana went the extra mile for me. She explained everything thus making e-signing all documents quick and easy. She also personally showed me where my unit was located. Alyssa originally was the person I spoke to the day before over the phone when my unit was reserved she was so pleasant. This location is immaculate inside and out . All units are indoors and climate controlled in the entire building. There are 3 floors and elevators. LOVE LOVE THIS LOCATION!!!!!
