Great service and friendly staff! The facility is well maintained despite it being downtown. Ive tried other storage facilities in the area during undergrad, but this uhaul is my favorite. Entrance/exit can be difficult to navigate during rush hour, but hopefully after the construction on Leigh Street is done, itll be easier to get to.

Wish I could give zero stars. Did the online reserve to avoid coming into the store, kept giving me trucks that weren’t there. Waited for 35 mins in line and one person was working. Finally got up and the dolly I had reserved was “not available.” Awesome. Get to the truck and the key doesn’t work. Long line of people with similar issues. Definitely avoid this location at all costs!

Wouldnt recommend this place for truck rental at all their poor at accommodating their customers. I rented their smallest box truck for 1 day but there was a mix-up with my storage at a different location so I needed the truck for one more but to make a long story short they kept calling me every hour rushing me to return the truck even after I paid for the extra day. Like they literally called me a hour after I paid for another day. An the Manager was really rude, had the nerve to call can tell me Im making her miss money which Im still trying to figure out how if I was still paying for the rental. So find somewhere else if you want to be able to use the truck for as long as you need it.

Best location to rent a trailer in Richmond, Va.This is a very busy location, lots of rentals. If you hold your rental longer then the reservation some one may not get there order filled.

I reserved a storage and she said that it will let you do it online, but it is not available!!! after I brought all the truck fully loaded and still acting mean like it is my mistake. This place is devastating.

Most unprofessional service I have ever experienced. They called me 3 hours before my truck and car carrier rental pick up time saying that it was unavailable. They told me to drive 45 minutes to another U-Haul center to pick up another truck and trailer. They called me at 2:30 and told me to get it before 5:00pm. My originally pick up time was 6:30; not to mention all of this is on a weekday while I am working. I would not recommend U-Haul in the future, nor will I be moving with them. Completely unacceptable

This location has been so accommodating after the location on W. Broad was completely disorganized. I cannot recommend this location more, everyone there is empathetic and understanding and will do just about anything to make sure you are moved in. Thank you again to everyone there!

Storage review - the team at this location is extremely customer service oriented. Aisha made sure I got the best unit for my belongings.Then when I was dropping off items, Janay, April, and Pharaoh helped me when I was in a crunch as they were leaving work on a Friday evening. They were kind and problem-solving oriented. THANK YOU!!!Leadership - please update access hours everywhere it’s posted. Google Maps and your website show access is available until 10pm.

This relates only to storage usage experience: used U-haul to move cross country, and when I arrived had already arranged storage at another facility. The manager said he would beat the rate, and offered a reduced rate unit. We moved in. Fast forward one month - we were overcharged, and after a dozen or better calls to the local and national hotline, managed to get a balance refund. It took weeks. But wait, theres more...Fast forward to month two: same thing, with added excuses pinning blame on the national chain, and vice versa. And month three, four and five, the same.So, i was asked to remove my credit card from auto draft, and pay the appropriate monthly fee, which should correct the problem....Fast forward one week: harassment calls demanding the full amount...from the LOCAL STORE...the ones that caused the mess. But thats not all: lien notices, and when I ce to check my unit, I had been locked out - NUMEROUS times. Never once was I late. Never once did I pay less than my contract stipulated.Every. Single. Month. Was a wrestling match to get my rightful refund. And 9 times out of 10 I caught attitude, and was treated like I was wasting their time. We are talking about around $300 so far in overcharges.Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere for storage. Run away quickly, in fact. They suck.

The truck itself is a standard Uhaul pickup. No issues with the quality of the truck itself. Seemed to be in good repair, and prior damage was properly notated with stickers and whatnot. I went with the no contact self checkout option so I could pick up early am. 1st issue was that the combination on the key locker was incorrect and I had to fiddle with it for a while before I figured out the error. So it took a while to get my keys. 2nd, they may have wiped down some of the inside of the truck, but they definitely didnt clean it. From the time I picked up the truck to the time I got home I had 3 tick bites and one crawling on my arm that hadnt attached yet. I live downtown and hadnt been anywhere that would likely have a bunch of ticks

The staff were super rude. My dad is handicapped and the staff would not assist us with returning the truck. We sat and waited and finally the gentleman outside showed up, he was doing all the work and was so nice to us and helped us. We have rented many times from this place and had no trouble but the staff on Sunday must be different.

Best U- Haul experience BY FAR we’ve ever had. We rented a truck 3 times this week as we moved my in-laws. Ciara, Charles, Cavelle, Tiana and Janay all provided exceptional customer service. I literally walked out because of the customer service, i was so excited because I am moving today, so I was moving around looking for boxes and box openers, markers, and things like that. my friend was going to help me move since I don’t have a license so he was at the counter and the lady at the register kept telling me and my friends to stand on the blue squares (social distancing squares) and if we didn’t she wasn’t going to help us, I was happy and I was looking for things to help me move how AND WHY am I going to stay still in a blue square IF IM LOOKING FOR THINGS TO HELP ME MOVE? This was the worst U-Haul experience I have had and I wasnt the only one. I waited in line over an hour only to get a smaller vehicle and I was fortunate. Others who had made on line reservations waited in line only to be told that the online system wasnt working and they would not receive their equipment. During my 30 year military career, I moved over a dozen times and thought I could depend on U-Haul regardless of where I was. If I were a young, I would build a business model that serves the moving needs of the the Richmond community in a far superior manner than what U-Haul is doing now--they have a monopoly and demonstrate very little concern for customer service and satisfaction.

Picked up a trailer from this location for the first time because the normal location I go to did not have the trailer size I needed. The process was all still the same, I was using the trailer for a local route and had to have it back by 9am the next morning which I did and brought it back that night after closing.Ive dropped off trailers after hours previously at the Southpark location in Colonial Heights without any issue but I cant say the same about VCU. I usually receive an email to check-in the trailer before the location actually closes or at least before midnight. That did not happen with this location. I dropped the trailer off around 10 pm and parked it in the same location I picked it up. I did not receive the check-in email by that time or by midnight.I wake up the next morning and see that my receipt shows a charge for $20 for an After Hours Service Fee. I call the office and speak with someone and they tell me that since I didnt check the trailer in and go to a website to do so, I was charged the fee. I informed them that I usually get an email to check-in the trailer which I never received. I was then told that if I wanted a refund that the Manager was outside and that they would give me a call back.I never received a call back from the manager which is terrible business practice and management and I was charged the $20 fee. This was 4 days ago and still no call.I wont be coming back to the VCU U-Haul location with this experience.

If I could give negative stars I would!!!! My daughter fell behind in her payments to this facility so I helped her out by paying her rent for the month of December. I specifically asked the lady I spoke with if my card would be kept on file and she stated it would not.FLAT OUT LIE!!!!!! They kept my card on file WITHOUT my permission and charged it 255.82 on 1/16/2019 because the rent had not been satisfied.I called to inquire how they obtained permission to charge my card again because I had not received a phone call. The response was, Per the contract, if you give us a card number, we can keep it on file and use it for payment and I should have read the contract.!!!First of all......I DID NOT SIGN A CONTRACT!!! Its not MY unit!! I was doing my daughter a favor!!!Stay FAR AWAY from these crooks!!!

I was moving to Atlanta ga and this uhaul company told me I had to rent the uhaul for 4 days upon rental. I expressed my regards about only needing it for 1 day. I was told the minimum is 4 days. Maybe I am lost in the renting uhaul business but I’ve never seen anybody move for 4 days. They also told me a price of 1,000 dollars to rent the uhual. I’ve moved from state to state before and only paid for one day if I returned the uhaul at the requested time that I rented it. I am disgusted with this company and will be taking further actions. I was driving to Atlanta and had to rent a truck because of this. I’m trying to avoid rain, stuff falling off and etc when all I had to do was rent a uhual

I was very skeptical about renting at this location after reading some terrible reviews, but since it was the most convenient location for me I decided to go there anyways. I rented a U-Haul van and bought a few supplies inside the store. There were absolutely no problems, the staff was friendly, efficient, the mileage and gas were both correct when I received the vehicle and it was ready to go when I came to pick it up. Returning the vehicle was also very quick and no issues at all. I would definitely recommend this place.

Very helpful staff and good prices. Storage is plentiful and clean. Manager is kind and gives good advice when you have questions or concerns. This place is often busy so be ready to wait in line because there tends to be one. Highly recommend checking in online because of this to makes things smoother for you. Best Uhaul in the area!

This place has it all together and runs like a well-oiled machine. I would never have imagined a few years ago giving any U-Haul facility 5 stars, or even 1 star, but man have things changed.The staff is friendly and on top of things. You check in at the desk, then somebody meets you outside with your truck. The whole process goes very smooth and quick. Everyone is very professional.One word of advice, check-in online. It makes it easier on you and on the staff. They can get you, and all the people in front of you, in and out quickly.If you are not used to driving a truck it can feel a bit cramped getting out, but the staff is good to help you, and its not nearly as bad as it looks.All in all, if you need to have a good rental experience, then this is the place you want to go.

My company rented a trailer from here on 9/28. The trailer was hooked up incorrectly which led to the trailer falling off of my vehicle. The trailer also became tangled up in the chains which were also hooked up incorrectly. I contacted uhaul corporate and they stated the location manager would contact me on 9/30 to follow up on my experience. I never received a call at that time. They since have billed me several times erroneously.I am furious with the complete incompetence and then the reckless disregard for the safety of their equipment, my vehicle, and the individuals around me. I could have very easily killed one or multiple people if the trailer didnt disconnect sooner.If you dont head this warning head this one:Double check their installation and make sure that you stand your ground if they do it wrong.

Been here twice trying to rent a truck. the employees were slow, didnt seem to be paying attention l, and one answered their person phone on earbuds they were already wearing. another worker came in and helped the person behind me in line without any explanation. this is probably the worst customer service Ive seen in a long time.

My daughter used these guys 5.19.19 and when she returned the truck she made a mistake and left the visitors parking pass in the Truck. This was realized immediately and the location was contacted but ended up talking to a representative off site who advised that a call would be returned to let know what to do next, which we never got. All I wanted was the darn parking pass back, I dont understand why that is so hard, Ive called numerous times and no one has contacted me back, and its no since in calling when the actual location never picks up the phone. Funny thing is when I was there I heard the phone ringing and ringing with no one to answer it, yet there are multiple people walking around the location inside and out seeming to be doing absolutely nothing. I wish I wouldnt have to go through so much just to get a parking pass back.

If I could give them a negative number of stars I would. This is one of the most unprofessional places I have ever dealt with. I had my furniture in storage here. My card was saved on file. When I changed cards I called and updated the information. The young lady did not save the card so I obtain late fees the following month.When I attempted to pay the storage fee with out the late fees the customer service rep told me I had to speak with a manager. I called daily for over a week no manager responded. By this time more fees were added. I called the 1-800 # no one attempted to help me.One day I randomly receive a call from a customer service rep who tells me she can help me. She then goes on to say once I make the payment she will refund the extra charges. After I make the payment, she begins to tell me how the system is acting funny and she would have to call me back. When I asked about my refund she replies, oh the manager will have to do it.Needless to say the manager NEVER called back and has not attempted to refund my money. I had to move my stuff to another storage. The customer service is horrible and management is unethical. Do NOT ever do business with them

Check your credit card charges after you return the vehicle!!! I had read a review that said there were random charges put on credit card after the truck was returned . I had same experience. TAKE PHOTOS OF ODOMETER AND GAS GAUGE BEFORE YOU HAND THE TRUCK BACK!!!!! Then you have proof when they hit you with the extra charges.

The worse experience ever. Make sure you take a pic of the gas level when you return the truck.I rented a pickup truck with quarter tank of gas and brought it back on the same level. But I found out of the final receipt I used all the tank and left it all most empty. How come I could spend all most quarter tank on less than 10 miles.Dishonest staff. Just be careful and take pics of the gas level so you can sue them.

Do not do business with this location. we couldnt reach them on the phone, so we went in. They did not have a truck available for the days that we needed one, but they did make a reservation for another dealer. It was 25 minute drive to the other dealer. When we got there, there was a sign on the door that they had been closed for the whole day for a company event. We called the VCU location and told them the other dealer was closed. At first they told me that we were in the wrong place We confirmed the address. Then they told me that it wasnt a real U-Haul location - but they sent us there so what difference does that make. So they told us to call the 800 number. If they had left it at that, I wouldnt be writing this and we would have taken care of things. But they called me back and told me that they were on the phone with the location and that it WAS open. Great - how do we get there? They didnt answer, but put me on hold without asking if it was okay, and never came back to the call. After being on hold for over 10 minutes, the call rolled over to a central office someplace else. I had no idea what was going on, but I gave the operator the phone number for the reservation which they didnt have in the system. I hung up and called the VCU office back, I was on hold for 5 minutes before they even picked up. Then they put me on hold - again- for over 10 minutes - again- and it rolled over to a central office - again. Called the VCU office now for the 4th time, and started right off with dont put me on hold. She told me that she had to put me on hold to contact traffic. I asked her what traffic was but got no answer. She was very rude. I told her that all we needed was the address of the other dealer. She gave me an address and we went there, but she already knew that they didnt have the truck available and she didnt tell us. At that location we got the whole story. The people at the VCU location (currently being reviewed) had called her but they had called the wrong location. They already knew that they had made the mistake but didnt tell us what was going on. We still thought there was another location that had our reservation. They just left me sitting on hold close to half an hour total hoping we would just go away. They had also entered our phone number incorrectly which is why the central office couldnt locate it. We probably did need to speak to the central office, but we had no way of knowing that. All they had to do was say sorry, we made a mistake. Then we could have fixed it.The other dealer was very helpful and although they didnt have a truck available for the 3 days either, we found a work around that actually saved us money. Will review that location as well with 5 stars.

Absolutely not! My Ubox was supposed to deliver to Lombardy St. It was not there. It was in another county. When I got there it had NO TARP and my LOCK WAS BROKEN OFF. I have been on the phone for an hour, politely talked to 10 different people trying to figure out what happened. No manager could even help me! In the end they left a note and said they would call me on Monday, Ive been trying to resolve this since Friday afternoon. I apologize but I have lost my patience at this point.

With incredibly rude staff who dont seem to have any idea what theyre doing, any other business owner looking to infuriate their customers should shop here for tips. Excellent service!!!! I had no problem picking up my reserved truck (3 hours ahead of schedule) took all about 2 minutes.The truck was clean, neat and well maintained and had no problems driving it to New York City. The representatives were very nice and pleasant.

The line was out the door and there were two employees working the counters. It took an hour and 30 minutes to get to the front and sign paper work, and then it took another 20 minutes to actually get the truck. They were incredibly understaffed for a Sunday at the end of the month. The employees were working hard at getting people through the line, but again, there were only two people staffed at the counter. The wait time seemed excessive and it really cut into the amount of time I had available to move that day, and Im sure the rest of the people who were waiting in the line.

My boyfriend and I rented a trailer yesterday from this Uhaul. We’re driving across the country to Louisiana and installed a hitch and electric wires to hook up a trailer. We got the trailer on fine, but the person helping us completely lied when he was checking to see if the lights were working. He told us they were working fine and we were good to go. So moving our stuff in for a few hours and driving at night we checked for ourselves and they were not working at all. We realized we hadnt put a fuse in for the electric wires and there was NO WAY the lights on the trailer would be working when we were approved. This could honestly have been really scary and I’m enraged that the person helping us would flat out lie to us and put us in danger because he didnt feel like dealing with it. I’m sure theyre not paying people very well there and overworking their employees but thats like basic decency.

This was the worst experience for trying to rent a storage unit Ive ever encountered. IF you can get them on the phone, the staff is rude and deceiving. Rented a unit through the call center 2 weeks in advance, when she arrived, my daughter told her she did not have a unit reserved and that the office was closing. She had a truck full of furniture...no attempt to resolve the issue or help her. They just wanted to go home and close at 5:00pm....DO NOT USE THIS STORE.

If I could give this place a negative 5 stars I would. I wouldn’t suggest any one deal with these unprofessional people, no matter what complaint you have Lance the GM is not going to return your call he has been ignoring my calls this morning hitting the end button then after I called a few more times I got a text stating he was driving and will return my call. The assistant manager Shannon has no customer service skills because we were told we had 3 days to move out the storage and she would not let me in without paying another $124 fee and when I paid it my family and I had the hardest time getting back in forth to the unit because the key card declined us at entry 7 times to the point one time the alarm sounded offAnd third I don’t know who does training because I rented a Uhaul to move the items in which TeAndra wrote me up the contract and advised me to be back at 6 to get my refund however when I got there at 5:30 her manager Shannon told me to drop the key in the drop box because they were closed. She asked what was the due back time on my contract and I told her it was 6 and that TeAndra confirmed that in which she still told Shannon she said it and she turns to me and say oh well we’re shut down for today so you would have to come back tomorrow. I’m so tired of being treated like this after being a customer for years I don’t plan on ever using this Lombardy location again in life. And they better give me my refund today...

Rented a uhaul truck on December 31, 2013 from this location. Made reservations on December 30th. The person I spoke to was very pleasant and efficient in setting up my reservation. I arrived the next morning at 7:30am and was on the road 15 minutes later. Returned the truck 6 hours later and was quickly checked in. Had a great experience with all the staff that I dealt with.

Dishonest/careless/condescending. Received my Final charges Receipt via e-mail after returning equipment. Upon checking my bank account the amount deducted was completely different from the listed amount. when i called to get an answer as to why more was deducted from my account vs what I was charged for in my FINAL receipt. If I could give a negative 200% I will...bunch of thieves they stole my money..i bought a something from them and the deal is 100 of each I bought 2 so it must be 200 deposit...and I gave it to them in exchange to do what is said on the contract which I did and they only gave me $100 back they stole my other $100...they said that the camera footage is showing that I only gave $100 offcourse because I paid thru debit card on my other purchase and if it is so then why I went home the exact amount of my whole purchase and they shouldnt gave me my purchase because I am short of $100...people working there are so rude too..they talk to me like Im not a customer like Im just a beggar that is asking for money...never make business on this place if you dont want your money to be STOLEN!!!!

I had a bad experience at this location 3 years ago and was forced to give them another try since I waited until the last minute to get a truck. This time, when I got in the truck I noticed the mileage was different than what was recorded on the paper they gave me. Not wanting to get charged extra, I went back in to notify them. The manager verified the discrepancy then made a note to adjust my invoice. When I returned the truck before they closed (see below), not only did I have to wait 35 minutes, they said they lost the managers note. The extra mileage amounted to $30, so I demanded they call the manager who had left for the day. I ended up having to pay, but miraculously got my $30 back a week later.Then, 2 hours after I returned the truck, they called my emergency numbers asking why the truck had not been returned and said we would be charged an extra day. I laughed at them and said they were idiots, I returned it BEFORE they closed, and had my paid invoice in hand. Its their fault if they lost the truck now.I mentioned I had to return it before they closed; in the incident 3 years prior they were able to con me out of an extra days rental. Because we were using the truck late, I dropped the keys in the dropbox. The next day, I got a call saying the truck was there but no keys. I went down there and found out there is no box for the keys to fall into, and boxes and pallets are nearby for them to get lost in. Finally an employee found them and said someone found them a block away on the street; however, its pretty hard to mistake having the keys in your hand then watching them go through the door slot. There is absolutely no way they ended up outside the building. I filed a complaint with the BBB as well so it is on their record.This is one of the most dishonest business locations in Richmond. I imagine they succeed at their deceptive practices often, from dealing with a lot of naive college kids. I will never rent from Uhaul again. I would rather pay 4x the price at another company, and will go out of my way to share my experience with others.

Had a 26 foot truck reservation. Received a call the day before saying that the truck is no longer available. Totally screwed me. The woman who answered the phone was condescending and of no help. Avoid this place.

I stored my mothers furniture and boxed up personal items there for two years. When I went to get a couch it was covered in mouse droppings. I tried to call their office in Richmond on Lombardy Street and kept getting a operator in Phoenix, Arizona who could not help me. I guess Ill keep calling until I get someone there as I am concerned that the mice may be chewing up anything paper like old photos etc.
