Called to make an appointment, but they didn’t answer the phone.A woman called back and began the call asking if I was from a particular place. When I asked who was calling she said “you called me”when I told her I was having trouble understanding who was calling she said “okay have a blessed day”very odd way of following up on a appointment request.I walked pass to speak in person, but there door was locked and the windows were blocked with what looked like clutter all over the place. 😩Staff seems unprofessional and the space looks a mess.
I called to inquire about the services of the Sal I n. Owner was pushy and asked me to come in andnandnot tell me the prices. I sent another text and asked her how much would micro singles cost and if hair was included. Then she sends a text saying your doing good with marketing, I save my energy for better things she is clearly doesnt understand English very well and have no idea why my question has anything to do with marketing. I called the shop intentionally wanting to spend money an Africansshe text me and was very unprofessional. Saying I was marketing her when I was asking about prices. She is a ride and eccentric African it seems like. And her customer service is fake.
I called and showed up. 1 person inside looking at me like I was dirty. Then received a call back to find opening and she never called back.
THE ABSOLUTE BEST PLACE EVER FOR HAIR. I am quite particular about my hair and I really have a lot of pride in it. The owner of this salon, respects this part of me. She is gentle. She is caring. She is professional. She is precise and works with me to get the best hair style. The way she treats every single person who enters into this salon (Asian, Black, White, Latino, male, female) is done with the most impeccable attention and care. It honestly feels like home every time I enter. My hair stays healthy because of this place and I will forever be grateful.
Ive been coming to these women for decades. I literally travel from out of state just to get my hair done here. Be clear on what you want. Agree on the price beforehand. Prepare to spend the time needed to get what you want done! This is a local, woman-owned shop. I have never left here disappointed. If you get the chance to meet the owner, consider yourself blessed!
My stylist arrived on time and helped me choose a beautiful style that will last my a very long time. Extremely happy with the results, if you are in the SF Bay Area check this place out please!!! Loved the professionalism, service, and attention to detail.
I went to go get some crochet braids from the salon. Emma (who I think owns the shop) did my hair. She was quick and efficient and very friendly. The hair came out exactly how I expected it. The pricing was also very well within my range. It’s safe to say that I will be back! 😁
This place is the best hair braiding salon in the Bay Area! I started coming here when I moved to SF from NYC and now I am hooked and always come here. They do it all, Emma has done it all to my head, crochet braids, box braids, and cornrow braids and always does an amazing job. Plus shes always so funny, makes you feel like family and is so accommodating to my needs. If youre in the Bay Area/SF and you need your hair done, I definitely recommend you to come to this place!! You wont be disappointed.
Good service. Salon is open 7 days a week so you can get flexible appointment days. Braiding and twists are well done. They also do sow in weaves. Prices are reasonable even comparable to Oakland based salons.
My experience at Braid It Up is grand. I call make an appointment and get my hair braided by professional braiders. Prices are just perfect. And the attention you get is superb. And the owner keeps you in stitches. What I like about the store is that the owner carries her own hair. I dont have to bring in any hair because its all at the shop already. I believe I have found my braid shop to get my hair braided.
Amazing service and beautiful results.
Always first class treatment and braiding. I LOVE THIS PLACE.. I love the beautiful African women that are full of wonderful stories, humor and make me feel at home. And I am so proud to see that Sia Amma is now selling hair and hair products as well. I highly recommend this braiding salon.
Ive been coming here for 2 years now and I really love it! My natural hair has grown a lot, its strong and healthy and I get more complements than ever! Ama is always available, her prices are great and she really knows what she is doing! Its so hard to find someone reliable and good and at doing hair! Now that Ive found her I wont let anyone else touch my hair! I totally recommend her to anyone who wants to get their hair done!
I always receive the best braids, customer service, and price here. The braiders can change but there are some women (forgot their names!) there Ive been working with for years now. Ask the owner and she will help you to the right person -- always great!
This place is a total ripoff. They charged my daughter $70 to take down singles. They didn’t wash it nor comb it out. They didn’t even put conditioner in it to make it easier to comb out later. Her braids were the size of an index finger and only took about 45-60 minutes to take out. My daughter have been attending this shop for a good amount of time now and she gets her braids done their faithfully despite their overpriced hairstyles. I will definitely find another shop where they will not overprice their services.
I wish I could give this business more than one star but I can’t. Emma has been around for years and I expected a lot more than what I was presented. The braids looked horrible, parts were not straight. The hair looked used, not good quality, and the shop was dirty. Don’t waste your time and money here. Would not recommend as a last resort. I would question the people who gave more than one star. There are a lot of braiders in the bay who don’t own a salon and could do way better.
Travel nurse from North Carolina.Google searched this place.Received absolutely wonderful service from my braider and the owner!I received Sengalese braids for 250. Definitely worth the value.Great conversation, homely vibe, funny owner, and very respectful braider. Take your service here ladies. The shop has been around for 15 years and it shows why!
Best braiding, worst customer service.-I showed up in person, they were busy and requested I come back and call. UNDERSTANDABLE. I called the next morning and she requested I come at 5:30pm and call her when I am on my way. At 4:30-4:45 (3 attempts later), I call to tell her I am on the way, she rudely answers, tells me she will call me back as I am already planning to go to my appointment? So you know what? For that and the numerous attempts to contact, NOT being called back and lack of consideration…I googled another salon where I was attended in a timely manner and treated as a client. Where I will recommend all of my friends. I am very disappointed. They must not need the money☺️
I came to do my locks and was well treated at the salon. My looks great and l love the length of my hair. I definitely recommend this spot. Thanks to everyone who helped install my locks.
I badly needed my hair braided today. I called many places but they were closed, luckily I found Sf hair braiding down town . and call I got a response and within two hours i.had my cornrows done by miss Ama. I totally recommend this place for emergency hair . VERY LOVELY BRAIDED
They dont even deseve one star!!!They charged my son 85.00 dollars to wash, condition and braid is hair in shabby cornrows! I MEAN TEN CORNROWS. THE KIND YOU PUT IN AFTER A SHOWER!!!!NO SPECIAL PARTS, JUST STRAIGHT TO THE BACK!!!!!! RIP OFF!This place is a total rip off!!!!!!!!!!!They take advantage of people who dont know any better!!!!!
Full Braided Bob, nice and very neat work, two licensed beauticians, finished in a timely manner. Price includes braid hair at the time. Very pleased with my hair stylists.
Its cool but got charged 10 dollars more to get hair washed with hot water no shampoo
1 star for accommodating me in their schedule after calling several of times.Went in the shop and was told to come back in an hour and ahalf with and attitude. Went back and my the cornrows I got with added hair came out shitty as hell.Bumps coming out the braids. Braids loose in the back.I was not happy. I left and notice I had clumps of Greece in my hair. Not to mention Emma was so rough with my hair.. like if it was her first time doing it or something..there was a point where when shes started braiding along my forehead she dug her nails in my skin... I felt like she wasnt happy to do my hair. I felt violated, but still gave her a tip for doing my hair at the last minute. $45 for the braids and the extensions were $3.99 tip her $10.Save your time and your money. That shop was dirty and unorganized.I tries do give them the benefit of the doubt!Prove me right.
Great customer service will repeat took my daughter hair to get her hair done great experience will return
My apt was at 2pm she showed up 3 hours later! I do not like my hair, she was rushing in my hair looks a mess! Im not ever going back there again...
She is amazing come. Here and have the best experience
Made an appointment for 12:30, she didnt start my hair until 1:30 close to 2:00. I chose big braids and ended up with small braids. My braids are not full at all. I would not be returning to this shop. I paid $200 for something I didnt ask for
I been coming here for a while now. They are always very busy but able to fit me in even when I have been procrastinating. The shop is clean professional and only the few places in the city where you can buy African American products from African Americans. Prices are competitive but you will walk out the shop looking right and tight. ASK FOR SUTTA OR AMMA.
I have been coming to this salon for three years now and I love it. They always recommend good things, and make my hair look fabulous.
Ive been going to this shop for 3 years. Amma, the owner, is a wonderful woman and has been there for over twenty years. My braider is Satta. She knows her stuff and has been braiding all her life. Her work is impeccable. I get single box braids, small to medium size, and waist length. It normally takes about 4-5, sometimes 6, hours depending on the day and if we decide to take a break (Which is at my discretion). My braids can last up to 2.5+ months if I take care of them. I normally only keep them in about 6-7 weeks and give my scalp a week or two to rest. These women are seriously the best in the city.*TIPS*- Cash is king, but they do have Square, so can take cards. If you need.- Best to make an appointment by calling, in person, or via text. Normally, youll get a reminder text the day prior to reconfirm, but if not, just reach out to double check if you feel the need.- Pricing is dependent upon size and length of braids. They have examples for you to choose from when you get there.- Bring your own snack or drink. There is a convenient store around the corner. You can also postmate/doordash food there very easily.- There is a parking garage one block up, but also street parking in front. Its the TL, so there is construction a lot of the time. I normally just lyft there.-Remember its the TL, so out of towners, be mindful of the area. Ive never felt unsafe there. There is a gate that remains closed during business hours, but you just need to slide it open to reach the front door. If they see you looking confused, they will come to the door and help you.- They have hair there, and a good selection. (I personally use a color that they dont stock, so I bring my own)- If you have a sensitive scalp and an issue with itching from the kanekalon hair, purchase it prior (you can buy it from there before the appointment), soak it in an ACV-Water rinse (10:1) for 20 minutes. You will see the white coating rise to the top of the water. Then shampoo and condition the hair, let dry, and brush out. * Make sure to use cool water when doing this*
I called to ask about hair extensions since I need mine redone and instead of answering my question the woman on the phone kept asking me how old I am. Very unprofessional and rude. I take it as a compliment that I sound young on the phone and this woman started insulting me and saying she should be speaking to my mom instead. Impossible since I live on my own lol.
Horrible service. I tried to coordinate extensions with them for a week before my appointment. I called at least 3x. No one picked up the phone until the day of my appointment, and they were rude and not helpful.
This is a great spot for locks, these ladies know what they are doing.....great skills. I was extremely satisfied.
The lady at the salon is weird, she made a appointment with me set for today, then canceled when I came to see if she was open.
If u value your Hair, your, Money and your Dignity.run dont waste your time.
Shes very welcoming and kind and professional and does a great job on my hair.
Friendly and awesome customer service... ❤️ Very hair braiding salon...and they price is good!
Update: This place is operated by a very disrepectful AFRICAN . LIKE san francisco needs another Arrogant human. (No shade) i had been coming here for over 7 years and this was a final straw to customer service. Shop elsewhere there are better BRAIDERS IN SAN FRANCISCO I CAN DO WITHOUT THE ATTITUDE NO WATER NO REFRESHMENT 5 HOUR HAIR DO WITH MORE ROACHES THAN I CAN SHAKE OFF.
Been coming here for literally years! Love Amma and love my braids...every single time!
I tatally love this salon, Satta and Ama are wonderful and I always feel welcome. The have hair for sale and do amazing braiding job.I will definitely be back.
Love this place its like family when I go in.
Really nice job... price ok.
Emma is a witch do not trust her she is very jealous and will mess up your hair. She ruined my natural shoulder length locs on purpose i have been growing my natural hair, for years She twisted two of my locs together in the front on purpose to ruin my natural hair. She is also very expensive!!!!
They do great braids but might not listen very well I asked for box braids they gave me regular braids they looked nice but its not what I asked for they might not listen to what u ask for very well and probably very busy and focusing on multiple things at the same time but the hairstyles always look professional and beautiful.
They had a cast iron door locked the lady talked to me through a door the customers are sitting in there looking out I wouldnt recommend it to nobody
My braids came out great
Yes,ms.Emma allways do a Great job 😆
