Earlier this year I spent a couple weeks training with Arthur in his classroom/shop, in preparation for a summer helping out at my local bike shop. I was able to pick and choose the areas of focus, making the best use of my time there. He is able to tailor his teaching to the student by providing detailed hands on guidance when needed, or enough room and support to figure things out on your own, under his watchful eye. The setup of his shop, and his teaching style, were a great fit for me. It truly felt seamless moving from his classes to my local shop. I couldnt be happier with the education he provided.
Update—This place is amazing, and its instructor is worth every penny. I have met individuals from different regions here and I can easily see this place reaching the same status as UBI or Barnetts in the future, if it wants to.The best part is that the instructor is so flexible and realistic, so he will work with you wherever you are and on whatever project you want. In the past couple of weeks we have tackled different projects as they came up and it made a learning experience into a very fun one. Best of all, at no point did i feel like my mind was being bogged down with information i didnt find relevant. The location is also beautiful, serene, and close enough to certain attractions, both nature and urban.
I went here to change my tube. The guy was friendly and fixed my tube in a matter of minutes. It was a pretty cheap repair and it wasnt secretive at all. The repair is done in his house, and you need to enter through the side entrance.
Ive been to this shop twice for some issues with a fairly new bike. Both times Ive received highly professional and expedient service. I cant praise this man enough for the excellence he provides. I recommend the Bike Teacher to everyone needing parts or repairs.
I highly recommend Arthur’s Bike Teacher course. He is a great mechanic who knows his stuff, I currently work at a bike shop, so Arthur and I came up with a plan to fill in the gaps where I was lacking skills and cover everything I needed to know to become a mechanic. I took the 70 hour course in nine days, an awesome experience. I definitely recommend it if your someone taking bike mechanics to the next level. He patiently walks you through every detail making sure you know the right mechanics. We worked on everything from building a bike from scratch to building wheels. I left feeling confident and excited, I can now work on the issues that drove me crazy in the past and new ones. Thanks Arthur.
Arthur is super knowledgeable and friendly. Would recommend to anyone. I have an expensive bike and don’t just trust anyone with it. I trust him.2 local shops booked me 2 weeks out for some maintenance so I called him - he had me out in 2 days. Thanks Arthur!
WOW. To start off this place is incredible; whether it’s getting your old or new bike serviced to getting more knowledge or certified as a bike mechanic. I came here to get certified as a bike mechanic and my experience here couldn’t have been more positive. Arthur has great mechanical experience and always made class constructive and enjoyable. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area. Excellent teacher and service, what a pleasure to learn here thank you Arthur!
Came by earlier cause my bottom bracket was coming off my bianchi and the man helped me out big time for a quick tightening. Chill and polite, very helpful !
Great lessons. Very patient teacher with lots of knowledge
Just to start Art is a super rad person to work with his knowledge of the bicycle is superb. excellent atmosphere the best experience when it comes to teaching something so technical. Definitely would recommend to anybody!
Great learning environment. From basic bike mechanics to complete bike rebuilds and repairs Arthur provides the perfect amount of guidance in a complete hands-on learning experience. The curriculum is tailored to your learning goals and interests and well worth it.
I had to get a tough bottom bracket removed, right before an upcoming bike camping trip. Arthur kindly took me in the same day, and popped it right out! I recommend this shop to anyone looking for repairs, and I would gladly take a class from him to get better at taking care of my bike.
Awesome training with Arthur. Great experience.
I was biking down Viva Calle SJ when I slipped and got a flat tire on the front. I asked around as to where I could get it repaired when I was directed to the Bike Teacher Stall near Dana Avenue. Arthur was there when I asked if I could replace it. He was very generous and kind as well as patient as he was also dealing with someone who had to tighten up a cog. He was also very professional and clearly was proficient in what he does. If the staff as well as the work they do are of such high caliber there, I would assume they would be at their main location. 5/5 stars.
My bikes and I have had three classes with Arthur. His classes, ability to teach, and his knowledge have far exceeded my expectations. The classes are 1:1 and Arthur had me engaged from the very beginning of classes, as I did the mechanics myself, with his guidance. His shop has everything and he encouraged me to get the tools I need. I feel so happy that Arthur is there for me when I need his class.
Amazing service and knowledge about bikes. Able to fit me in quickly for appointments with quick turnaround times. Pricing is usually better than LBS.
Hands on learning environment with well-experienced instructor.
For reliable and great bike service, this is my go to place.
One of the best sounds in the world is a bicycle flying down an open road with all the parts moving and operating in their proper form... all it takes is a simple click or creak to ruin your joy ride. & it probably means something needs adjusting or potentially replaced, so lesson #1 is to always listen to your bike when shes not purring... shes speaking to you.It used to drive me crazy because I only had very basic skills - often clicks or creaks would mean a visit to the bike shop - which took added time, the embarrassment of trying to explain a clicky sound over around this moving thing, and didnt always leave me feeling like the problem was solved. I tried learning some of this on my own, but YouTube videos didnt inspire me to take tools I didnt really know how to use on relatively expensive pieces of equipment or vital parts like the brakes. After now riding for about 10 years, I realized it was time to learn the trade so that I could perform maintenance on my own and know what the heck that moving thing is actually called & how it worked. I didnt want just a basic skills training, I wanted something comprehensive that I could walk(/roll) away from feeling like I knew how the bike operated in & out. I found Arthur and decided I would make the time investment and trek down from San Francisco for the 40-hour class. Thanks to Arthur, I now have the confidence and ability to maintain all parts and components on two different bike builds. The 1:1 hands-on training was key for me to master the various parts and procedures. I never would have been able to do this on my own, and the skillset will pay for itself over and over again throughout the course of my cycling-obsessed lifetime. When I rolled out at the end of the week, my ride was back to smooth & quiet.. and I had a great sense of pride in knowing that I made that happen and can now approach the next click or creak on my own.Overall, a super great experience and Arthur is wonderful to work with - I highly recommend!!
EXCELLENT TEACHER!! Arthur provides bicycle theory as well as practical teaching. The 1:1 training is better than sitting in a boring classroom and sharing the instructors time with other students. You can customize the course and hours. He is the best!!
Was open super early and was able to fix my inner tubes really quickly. Great customer service and very clean shop. Will definitely keep coming back for any other repairs!
After looking and looking for Bike mechanic I were lucky to find this place. Not only were the prices great but the service was phenomenal! From basic to advanced bike skills, learn wrench ride.. In the heart of Willow Glen!
Exceptional teaching skills and bike knowledge! I have set up 3 different bike lessons over the past couple of years with Arthur and have always been impressed. He has shown me how to ship my bike cross country, replace my brakes, rewire my brakes and derailleur, rewrap my handbar tape, etc. If you are wanting to learn more about your beautiful bike, Arthur is your man :)
Exelent!!!
