Brought in a hand drafted print of two very custom CV axles that no other shop would even touch. Automotive Drivetrain tackled the job without a second thought and produced a perfect fit the first time. Very rarely have I had custom parts made that bolt right up the very first try, excellent work!

Every so often, I work with a firm whose commitment to excellence and customer service stands out - so much so that I need to share what a solid experience weve had with the quality of their work, their ability to deliver on-time and on-budget, and their follow-through after-the-sale to ensure everything is right. Thats the case with Automotive Drivetrain in Tualatin, OR. This team of experts used their wisdom from decades of experience to fix a driveline vibration in our car that four other shops hadnt been able to cure. Our early morning weekend drives in this car used to be compromised by the car not feeling right between 30 and 60 MPH, plus there was an ear-splitting howl from the ring & pinion gears even though all dial-gauge measurements said the gears looked fine. There was this vibration you could feel in the seat, clutch pedal and shift lever - just made the car no fun to drive on early weekend mornings, so wed almost given up trying to fix it.JRs team quickly diagnosed the vibration problem to be the geometry of the new 5 speed transmission vs. driveshaft vs. the rear axles orientation to its leaf spring perches. They calculated the correct dimensions for shims that put the rear axle into proper alignment when the car was accelerating, cruising and braking. They made it look easy. The first test drive we took after their fix was a night vs. day contrast - the vibrations were gone, and the car shifted and drove wonderfully. As part of their thorough inspection, JRs team checked our transmission (which was perfect), crossmember, frame supports and limited slip unit of the differential. They identified some potential trouble-spots in our differential which could cause problems down the road, and provided us with a range of options to address the situation or leave it as-is to be solved later - no pressure. The cars original differential unit had a make-shift gearset to make the optimal gear ratio for dragstrip and autocross use, but it had a light whine to it. Their proposed solution was to replace the differential with one that eliminated the makeshift thick ring gear, thereby reducing weight of the rotating assembly for less inertial loss, wear and tear. The newer design of limited slip unit also used more modern clutch materials inside. Our car had a history of being finicky with three different gearsets - sometimes yielding ear-splitting howls and whines that made the car painful to drive without earplugs. While the setup we had recently settled on was pretty good, JRs team said they could do better, and they invested the time and expertise to make good on that claim. His team drew out more wisdom from decades of experience and engaged several suppliers to install a stronger, quieter differential system for us. They painstakingly installed more robust pinion gear support mechanism (rather than simple crush sleeves, theirs was a finely-machined pinion collar / bearing assembly) and they tried three different sets of gears from different vendors - including one that micro-polishes the gear faces with isotropic finish. They settled on a solution that significantly improved our differentials strength, improved the limited slip action, and delivered a reduction in gear whine. The end-result is a car that feels as smooth and vibration-free as new cars built today, but with the correct, smile-inducing sound and acceleration of old-school muscle. Its been wonderful to find a team of true craftsmen who take pride in their work, deliver things on-budget and on-time (if not sooner), and stand behind their work - a rare find these days. Thanks to JR and his teams work, our car feels solid and confidence-inspiring, ready to drive cross-country. I cant recommend them highly enough.

Straightforward and Honest guys at Automotive Drivetrain. Had some strange issues with my Chevy. They were able to diagnose the problem and fix it very quickly. Price was great too. Very competent mechanics, with a quick turn around. They even spotted an issue with one of my tires, a bit of a wobble. Which it turned out to be a bent wheel. They said i should get it fixed so that my wheel bearings dont go out prematurely. Very nice folks. I highly recommend them!

I just called these guys for a quote to lengthen a shaft on a 4wd vehicle. They were SO HELPFUL. The guy on the phone was very knowledgeable about my vehicle specific drivetrain (down to the year) without having to look anything up. He took the time to understand my issue and helped me understand things about my setup in a way that was genuine and friendly. I was blown away by the customer service. This shop seems to have a very high level of competence and great customer service... something that unfortunately is not very common any more. I look forward to doing business with them in the future.

Honest and more than fair! I called Automotive Drivetrain with a ridiculous hope in mind, help me by getting my Silverados driveshaft back together, quick, after I couldnt realistically complete replacing the U Joints in my driveline before company arrived from out of town. JR is the name of the gentleman that answered the phone when I called and as it turns out, hes the owner! What luck, I thought but that appeared to be how they operate there. The owner actually cares about his customers so much that he gets dirty with the rest of his staff. Now were talking! He said he could have me back on the road with a day or two to spare. Thursday is when I dropped off what I had and Monday is when he called me with a perfectly completed and balanced driveline! Two words, Stellar Service! Thanks again, youve earned my business!

DANGER, DANGERI spoke with JR multiple times, I wanted to make sure that he knew about my type of vehicle and I wanted the best mechanic working on my vehicle, in regards to fixing my Jeep of little issues. I had a chirping in the front end, he had no idea what it was, and my transmission would pause and make a clunking noise once it engaged if you accelerated quickly, he thought it to be electrical. I dropped my car off to him on October 2 and picked up my Jeep on the 11th. During this time period I spoke with JR about 3 times to check on the status of the Jeep. He replaced my rear-end and my driveline saying that they were leaking excessively. I had him replace them. October 11th when I picked up my vehicle the issues I went in for were still there and now I had a very loud humming in my rear-end that he stated was a warped rotor and not to worry about it when it fails to return and he would replace my entire braking system with high performance rotors and brakes. Since I was completely repairing all issues minor or major I took my Jeep in for a 120k maintenance. At this time my rear-end is now making all kinds of noises a metal grinding sound and that humming was really loud. I asked that they look at that as well. Thousands of dollars later in repairs from his bad mechanics I had a rear-end that was not set properly which destroyed the rear-end, a belt that was put on wrong, and may plugs werent put in properly. I had to replace all his work except for the driveline in which I found out yesterday was also put in in correctly and has cause frontend issues of which is costing another thousand dollars. STAY AWAY from this guy. His work is garbage!!!
