I really enjoyed the outdoor patio. Went for breakfast on a sunday morning and the line was moving fast. They are efficient and the food is great. I got the turkey brie panini and the salmon and cream cheese everything bagel and both were delicious. I attached pictures of the menu as it was difficult to find online.
One of the few coffee houses that we found open around 19th near the Dupont circle on early Sunday morning with an enclosed outdoor patio. Crossiant + sandwiches and a great cup of Americano coffee with a friendly group of other coffee drinkers!
The people who worked there were super friendly. The coffee I had was just how I liked it not to bitter or sweet. I got a sandwich there that was so good and made fresh and they had probably had one of the best cookies I’ve had at a coffee shop.
Java House is a well-established cafe in the Historic Dupont Circle neighborhood. Situated on the warm side of Q St NW, Java House’s large patio offers power outlets along the railing, as well as umbrellas and an extendable awning for shade during warmer days.Java House is a great place to study, grab weekend (or any day) breakfast & lunch, or extend your work-from-home office for a few hours.
Great coffee! Try the Paragusto.
Very nice coffee House. I had a Banana Mocha a drink I had never seen on any other coffee house menu. Great place to sit and talk on a first date.😁
Clean, friendly, quick. The eggs on their breakfast sandwiches need salt and pepper, or at least they should have salt and pepper available at the condiment counter, otherwise the sandwiches are pretty good - plenty of bacon, melty cheese. They dont serve affogato until after 11AM.
Wonderful! Lots of outdoor, covered seating and good, well-priced food.
I should say its the local version of great with more sophisticated dining options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Unfortunately Java House has gone way downhill. I went in and ordered a Turkey & Swiss Melt (sandwich). Paid for it, left walked home and when I opened it up realized they gave me a Turkey Club Sandwich (not what I ordered). I didn’t have time to go all the way back so I thought ok we’ll I’ll just eat this and after a few bites I realized it had no Mayo on it, it was a dry Turkey Club. It came with a cup of semi brown pine apple chunks on the side. First world problems, I know but still disappointing. I won’t be going back to this neighborhood coffee house.
Off 17th street. Has outside tables in shade and some air conditioned inside. Big range of coffee, Chi, and sandwich menus. Roasts its own coffee. Quiet strong. Prices above average. Range of pastries sometimes Bananas. Clean toilet you ask for a coin. ATM. Some times you might have Moscitoes. Busy street parking meters. No
No room to sit inside ( very awkward inside seating)
Good food. Nice street.
Yeah...Im more of a Python guy.
*COVID REVIEW*They took pandemic protocols seriously! I thought the wall of whole bean coffee was a cool option. Decent prices on bevs, will have to come back for food.
The bacon egg and cheese on croissant is 🔥
I love this place! But it saddens me to give them 2 stars. They recently hired new people and one of them is a tall girl who’s a cashier mostly always wearing pink with pigtail braids. Her service is terrible! She talks so low and if you tell her your order she always gets it wrong! I always go in for the same thing and it’s a everything bagel with cream cheese/ bacon and an large iced chai. She makes the chai terrible. She adds way too much milk and doesn’t make it properly. I would have to add cinnamon to give it more flavor. Most of the time when she’s there, there’s a small short lady making the food. When I would order my bagel there would be so little of cream cheese! Ever since they started working there the experience has been terrible. I just hope they fix that problem. Or I will NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN.
Excellent service n the staff very helpful.
It is a really good place I love it 😀
Great service...very local
Got sandwich, big mistake. Tasteless and small portion.
Nice coffee shop
The ambiance of the place is nice. I love their mocha and croissant with egg, bacon and cheddar.
It’s called Java House, but if you really like coffee and that’s what your seeking, pass this one up. I gave this place 2 stars because the woman inside was friendly enough, it’s a convenient location, there is a partially covered patio that was a pleasant place to sit and wait out the rain, and there were a lot of people picking up food orders to go, so maybe the food is good...I don’t know, I didn’t try the food. But, this is truly one of the worst lattes I’ve ever had...and I have many experiences to compare.
For a place that prides itself on the finest blends, the coffee was okay. Staff was very friendly and nice precautionary measures have been taken inside the shop.
Really good coffee. Small and tight inside, but wonderful staff. Granola is quite good. Generous with bananas and strawberries. Have not tried pastries or breakfast sandwiches.
Best carmel latte
I ordered a latte and it was definitely just milk with coffee in it. That alone is not that big a deal; what was weird was that I asked the lady serving whether she was sure that that was my order and, once she assured me it was, whether they dont foam their lattes and she very dismissively said no. So like either it wasnt my order or they dont foam their lattes here.
Skrong coffee, the way I likes it 😎☕🍮
I want to like this place but, no. Ive visited maybe three times. Espresso drinks are an afterthought, they always act surprised if you want one. Maybe the normal drip coffee is OK? Muffins are crumbly and stale. Interior feels cramped and unwelcoming to sit. They stay open so I guess some people disagree with me but I dont understand why. McDonalds makes better coffee.
This review is on a sliding scale - I believe in ranking places according to what they aspire to be... Java House is an unpretentious coffee shop. The coffee is good, though nothing spectacular. They do have a really nice patio area to soak up some sun while eating your breakfast. On that note, Ive found the breakfast sandwiches to be delicious. Try eggs and whatever on a croissant. The servers are reliably fantastic.
Great place to grab a solid breakfast sandwich and coffee to-go, but its also a great atmosphere to stay a while and work/chat. Love the food, service, and atmosphere here. Also theres an easy-to-use printing service inside if needed.
Java house is a pretty chill place to grab a cup of coffee and a quick bite to eat. I work from there occasionally during the week since its close by and their coffee is good. Their food is alright, nothing amazing, but its decent (a little overpriced though). The service is usually pretty good. It can be difficult to find a plug for your laptop, but generally its not crowded so its doable. It has a nice, large, partially covered outdoor patio to sit at when the weather is nice.
Its nice that its open during the pandemic.
Nice little spot to grab coffee, tea or a light meal in the middle of DuPont. Excellent patio on nice days.
Cheap coffee. Read a book and sipped my very generous medium coffee. There was lots of lively conversation. So seems like a regular spot for folks. Wifi didnt work so well. They have good solid straightforward breakfast offerings.
Build your own bagels? Huh? All the ingredients you order for your bagel come separately. You have to put it together. Strange. Avocado portion is small
Terrible coffee, whole place smells like it, too. Very dingy and dirty. Bagel is also not great. I’m pretty confused as to how people enjoy this place. The smell alone is hard to take. Every other coffee place in the neighborhood is 10 times better
Enjoyed the coffee. One person had hot chocolate said it was best in DC area. Made breakfast sandwiches late at night. Try the carrot cake delicious.
Terrific spot, great coffee and fantastic staff.
If you love coffee this is the place to go.
The shop is on a great corner in DC and out of 50+ coffee shops, has the best Chai lattes. The salads are generous and wonderful as well, fresh and made right on the spot. I go out of my way to come here consistently and friends are starting to come as well. Definitely must stop in!
Ordered a large iced chai, was 80% ice and 20% tea. When I tried to contact management, called 4x and still no response. Happy to support local businesses, but not when they hustle their customers.
They roast their own beans, and serve up great espresso drinks. Ask them to go light on the syrup if you like yours flavored. Also has decent breakfast sandwiches, pastries, lunch options, and a patio to linger on.
Unique coffee/tea shop. Hreat area yo enjoy the weather (during the warmer seasons). The outside covered patio is a hood option versus the quaint inside seating area.
Coffee shop where they roast their own beans. Many varieties of beans to choose from. They also serve food so it is also a community hangout
Wonderful place to sit outside with a cup of coffee on a nice day and watch the world go by.
The food is the real reason to visit this place. All the sandwiches are made fresh and are tasty. If you also like places with an authentic old coffee shop feel this is one of the best, its been around since the early 90s as one of the first real corner coffee shops before starbucks was ever a thing.
Oh my goodness, the coffee here was terrible. it was so sweet, it didnt even taste like coffee. tasted more like syrup mixed in water. and it the price for it after taxes was more than five bucks!
This place is awful, they have a very hot coffee bean roasting machine right at the entace. Not only is it hot, its not protected from the public. The place had a line leading into it and one guy sneezed all over the beans and another placed his hands in the roasting beans. The cashiers are not friendly and appear to not like there job as they are not friendly. The service reminded me of one of those prison movies where they slap food on the tray. I left never ordering after seeing this.
Awful place with VERY VERY rude service. I would never return to this place. I had to use the bathroom and I told the woman working the dining area that I would be right back. When I returned she had tossed my food telling me that I had taken too long.
Expansive drinks and printing
Really good coffee and good food. Nice neighborhood place.
Very sad to give 2 stars to this place. I be coming here for 20 years but the service has change. Every Sunday I go to java house and the service is very disappointing. I ordered small coffee and croissant with egg, ham and chess and the lady says back ok I get ham and chess on croissant. I say no is croissant with egg, ham and chess. But she still being the wrong order. Sound too childish but is not when they do every time. And the napkins looks like toalete paper. Please guys get right. Start write the order.
Small local coffee shop with decent espresso drinks and an awesome selection of coffee beans. They also have a great patio.
Nice coffee, yummy bagel, slightly cold service.
Great coffee and tea!
Great food, great coffee, and service was great. Wonderful patio space for enjoying the great weather and people watching!
1st time here. Excellent salad!
Nice coffee and good breakfast. Very friendly people working there!
Good coffee, mucho better then other popular coffee shops
If you have a nut allergy, be cautious. I asked whether the scones had nuts and was told they did not. ...the cranberry scone I bought had walnuts in it.
Owner is very rude and disrespectful. He was sitting around as if he was a customer and jumped up out of his seat and into my face questioning me. What do you want, not even hello, how may I help you. He did this after I placed my order and was looking for the restroom, the place has an entry around the kitchen that looks as if it might be the bathroom. He knew exactly what I was looking for and pick the WRONG GUY TO TRY and DISRESPECT. I asked who he was talking to me on such a rude and barking tone. He puffs his chest out and and barks Im the owner, what do you want. His feelings were hurt after I responded in the equal manner and walked out leaving the food I had paid for and all. Im assuming he spoke down to me because I was somewhat dirty from the construction work that I do. He needs to learn how to approach human beings. I left the restaurant and went to my work truck as he sat there quietly sobbing and focusing in on me.After setting him in his place, his little WEASEL feelings were hurt so bad that he acted like a hurt little girl and called building management and everyone he could since the company I work for was working at his location/building and lied about the whole 30 second issue. Mind you this CLOWN wasnt man enough to return my 7 bucks as I wouldnt eat anything from man-less trash like him. Im happy though my 7 bucks will feed his wife and kids since the business has poor ratings. Little did he know that I had read him like a book and immediately called my job and told the a LITTLE WEASEL would be calling to complain and BAM, what did he do? He Called everyone under the sun in Typical butt-hurt WEASEL fashion to lie and complain. His feelings were truly hurt, I saw his eyes tearing as he couldnt stop looking at me even after I left the establishment and went to my work truck. HAHAHAHAThis CLOWN needs to Learn how to approach people and not to discriminate or whatever hair was up his butt. This is exactly why he has POOR RATINGS all over the internet and the employees dont stick around.
Great food, excellent service, very friendly and hot cocoa was great!
Love Java House. Glad to be back in DC and able to get coffee here again!
Great coffee and friendly service!
After recently leaving the Affordable Housing Rally, I saw Java House and wandered in for some octane (coffee). Decided I was hungry and ordered the Avacado BLT .... it is THE BEST one Ive ever tasted! The bacon was not fatty and it was perfectly well done - crispy but not brittle, with a hint of chewy-ness. Multi grain bread is perfect texture and flavor compliment and avocado was 100% ripe with no brown marks. Truly memorable. Coffee con leché was great, too!
I went this morning to grsb coffee and some sweet. After my order i went the rest room and i told to the person work at the regester. Its understandable at rush hour everyone will be busy. I was waiting for for a while to grab my order finally another person came told her i order coffee and sweet she just ignor me and went i knoe the casheir was busy i waited for a while just to grab my order. Then the person came which she took my order i asked her. Then i request fork and knife just to pass it over it took them more than 2 min i was teally upset i never seen in dc such rudness and worest curomer service. I was talking to my friend the situation one of the Ethiopian casheir heard me because am Ethiopian too. While i was walkig out she followed me all the way out side and insult me disrespect the customet. She got time to curse me but no time for just pass over my order. As long as i paid for the service i should have get the same treatment like any other customer. Pls improve the way the worker treat any nationality or race or gunder
One of the best coffee shop patios in the District!
Wow, I can’t believe they are still in business. Drink orders wrong, for not just me 3 others in line, coffee mediocre. Better staff / coffee at McDonald’s. Serious disappointment.
Great a d unique place, been coming here for 20 years, love Mimi!!!
Recently the coffee has been tasting burnt. Otherwise love this place
Everything was great. But there were not enough chairs for a big company.
Their coffee is not good but have a great ambiance
Delicious pastries, great service and good coffee.
Really nice and local place. Coffe and food are amazing.
Good paninis, nice atmosphere for reading or working, wifi available.
Very solid, nice patio
Great little local coffee shop on 17th! stop by here with your pup on the way to the dog park.
Espresso shake! Gotta have one😍
Best neighborhood coffee in Dupont!
Nice ambience, quick service, plenty of seating outside.
Best price and quality goods!
Some seriously good coffee.
Awful coffee with poor service. First and last time I ever come here and I live 4 doors down. So sad
Stood in line forever and got rude service only to get a disgusting wilted sandwich. Wont be back.
Fantastic coffee
Its fine.
The best local Cafe in DC
Great coffee!
Bad service, and wifi doesnt work as advertised.
Good coffee.
Rude customers and no customer service
