Great atmopshere. Try the draft latte. Its life changing.
Ordered a Draft Oat Milk Latte and received a cup that was 80% foam, 20% liquid. I got about 4 slurps out of that one. The cup was noticeably light and I should have had it exchanged; but never should have been served that to begin with. Other items were good though. Great spot in an art alley.
If you are looking for a coffee shop and cakes, this is the place to be! It offers free wifi and also has a smoking facility inside the venue (if youre a smoker). The staff/waiters are always helpful and bubbly. The coffee was on point, and the food was superb. It is well priced and a nice atmosphere!
Nice airy coffee shop, with a convenient space to work.
The atmosphere is super nice and the food delish.
I absolutely love the style of this place. Small, hole-in-the-wall joint that serves excellent coffee. Its like a secret gift to the area. Danny the hostess was knowledgeable and knows her coffee! The pour-overs here are great and they feature various types of both espresso and drip coffees from dark to light! Music is enjoyable and not distracting. The style of the pottery they use is incredibly beautiful and striking. It comes from a handmade seller in Italy which gives it an authentic feel to touch. Definitely coming again next time I visit DC!
The barista of this coffee shop was very good in making their best seller coffee. The other staff was very courteous and respectful. Their slice of cake was very tasty perfect to pair.
Think Starbucks but more hipster. I only rate coffee shops based on straight espresso pulls . This is slightly better than what you would get from a large chain. Seemed confused when I asked if the espresso was served with a side of soda water ... sigh ...Service was phenomenal though and the nitro brew with lemon was super delicious. Gave me a free N95 mask too . I’d give it 4.5 stars if I were rating for any other reason than straight espresso experience
I’m pretty sure that half of DC comes here for coffee on Saturday mornings just so that the other half of DC can see them here! In other words, it’s always busy but for good reason. Great coffee, friendly service and delicious baked goods. They strategically place the cabinet of savoury and sweets in front of the area where you queue so you’ll definitely walk out with more than what you came here for.
We just followed the crowed and it led us to this coffee place. It wasn’t disappointing at all! Very good coffee and bakeries. It resides in Blagden Valley which was interesting itself. It was an old shabby part of town now is under going transforming to a better place. The colorful murals lighten up the valley. Parking was easy ( from what I observed) just park on the brick road.
The coffee is great, and so is the location. It would be perfect but I always sense some snottiness from the personnel. This is why I am taking off one star.
My latest go-to coffee shop in the District. La Colombe was already a favorite of mine, but its Blagden Alley location makes this Philidelphia-based chain even more appealing. I consistently order and enjoy their Corsica (pictured) coffee and have not experienced a bad pour yet.The ambiance is perfect for a date, reading a good book, or knocking out your next assignment. This shop is well worth a visit!
Good coffee and location. Main complaint is there is not a lot of places to sit and they tend to emphasize their non drip coffee options.
Cute coffee shop tucked away on a cute alleyway with outdoor seating. Delicious pastries!
Coffee is ok, service pretty good, and place relatively quaint. HOW IS THERE NO WIFI AT A COFFEE SHOP??? Unreal. Don’t get it.
Excellent! High quality coffee and great aesthetics. They have nailed it!
ExcelentCoffee, Service, super clear a neet place. I will go back tomorrow
Their service was extraordinary and the food was wonderful.
Killer coffee in an awesome space. I always seem to have issues finding seating here, but maybe it is just my timing. Either way, Im willing to go out of my way for La Coulombes coffee - it is always top notch. This particular location is a little hard to find if you dont know your way around this area - it is in an alley and you might feel like youre going the wrong way. Soldier on - youll find it!Note that they do not have WiFi here so plan accordingly.
Great coffee that the owner sources himself all over the world, as per his TV show, Dangerous Grounds. I interviewed him once.
Old school indie coffee shop. La Columbe brings back the long gone independent coffee shops that got absorbed by the expansion of Starbucks in the 90s. Its nice to find an alternative place. Its located in kind of an out of the way place. Cool brick exterior, interior is like a garage. Great coffee, good service, what more could you want?
Lovely place with very good coffee.
The coffee and pastries were really good, but -1 star for inability to warm up the croissant and -1 closed indoor seating and no outdoor options.
The coffee here is amazing! Taste so good. I tried it when I visited DC so if you’re going to the Alley Museum, you gotta try it!
Great service and no bitterness in their cold brew. Very good
Nice enough place, unfortunately the staff is much more focused on making sure customers follow COVID protocols instead of getting your order correct. Three straight days of visits, only one visit with the order being correctly prepared. But at least they make sure that you follow the arrows on the floor.
Excellent decaf Americano
Small hole in the wall that roasts great coffee. Wonderful place to sit and relax away from the hustle and bustle of K street.
Absolutely delicious latte!
Coffee was ok, I wish employee was more concerned about taking my order instead of prancing around because rude and dismissive!
It’s been a while now since they have reopened and while other cafés and restaurants have reopened and accommodated with outside seating, it is very disappointing to see that this La Colombe has not.It would be nice if the location, as some other locations have done, put out a few chairs and tables to accommodate patrons who wish to enjoy their coffee and sit outside.
This continues to be one of our favorite La colombe locations. Always friendly and helpful staff, killer coffee and tasty pastries. This morning my husband and I played hooky from work in order to get some cappuccinos and the almond chocolate croissant. We noticed that they dont have Wi-Fi. However that doesnt seem to deter people from parking their engrossed in great conversation.
So good!
Great coffee and friendly staff.
Great coffee, but 1 hour before closing as one is enjoying the coffee, you smell chlorine as the floors are being washed and everything is being cleaned up. This does not make a very nice experience as you are paying for the atmosphere, experience in addition to quality drinks and treats. Perhaps 10 minutes to closing one may expect this atmosphere, however 1 hour prior to closing leaves a bad taste.. Hope that management takes notice and addresses this policy, may be its only in this location. There are 8 people in the cafe, so it is obviously patronized at this time..
Very pretty place with cozy ambience, good coffee and service. Recommended especially for Europeans who are used to lighter roast and a bit stronger taste. You can get free filter coffee if you buy their special roasted beans.
A little more than I like to spend on coffee but it was really great. The cafe is bright and cute. One of the best parts is it is in an ally with really cool murals. Definitely a good date spot if thats what you are looking for.
Just as good as in Manhattan
Great coffee, best staff. I go almost every day (at least until now while the whole city is basically temporarily closed). Wanted to let you guys (the staff) know youre missed!
First time going to an actual La Colombe location. Oddly enough Google predicted with 99^ certainty I’d like this one, but none of the others.Small yet cozy inside. Not much seating but I did easily find a seat for myself.Staff was friendly and patient, especially for someone like me never having been to one before. Patiently answered my questions and offered suggestions.Highly recommend.
Yum!! their coffee brew is so good!! Extremely creamy and smooth. If you are not of fan of creamy coffee, I would stay away. The decor is beautiful and the service is quick and fast.
Great coffee, small place but cute vibe!
Why go to Starbucks? La colombe has better coffee for the same price. You wont find 800+ calorie orange mocha frappuccinos or mango fruit juice tea here. La Colombe will give you a great cup of well roasted, and well brewed coffee. Also, the espresso drinks are proper espresso drinks.
Wonderful spot with excellent coffee. I love the draft latte. My wife loves the regular hot latte. Friendly staff. Lovely latte art. :)
Ensconced in a DC alley way near the convention center, this La Colombe is unassuming and unconventional. Draft lattes are similar to the canned offerings and very creamy. The oat milk version is notable. The subtleness of espresso makes such an enjoyable morning beverage. When you stop by watch out for runners, sprinting around the corners!
This review is solely based on the taste of the coffee. The shop appeared to be pretty neat on the inside but I waited outside with the dog while my wife grabbed coffee. I got a cold brew coffee and it was room temperature and the flavor assumed the plastic cup it was in. I recommend serving the cold brew chilled and not relying on ice and also get better cups and straws that do not affect the taste of the product.
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. They offer free sparkling and still water in glasses too! So much better than bottled water.
Always a great experience. Excellent coffee just like all La Colombe locations but in a more cozy, intimate setting. Friendly service and great music. Usually I stick to a cappuccino or a draft black and tan, but once I had a really fantastic raspberry pistachio croissant.
As good as it gets. Cheaper than Starbucks and the coffee will please coffee elitists (I am one). The staff is always friendly, authentically so. The music is great. The free sparkling water is, for some odd reason, the best sparkling water Ive ever had. Everything about this place is amazing.
Great coffee and environment. Location is also neat since there is nothing near the place to draw huge crowds of Starbucks zombies. Likewise, there is no WiFi or stupid merchandise. Coffee is the focus. My applause. That said, I visit the place several times a week, and the music there really annoys me. There is no problem with the styles they play (those are actually a good mix and 80s house is particularly appreciated). Instead, it is simply too loud. Rather than creating a gentle background effect, it is usually blasting in your ears so much that you cannot focus on the book you are reading and coffee you are drinking.Hint, you are a coffee shop, not a nightclub. Let us hear the espresso machines, steamers and the hum of conversations. Add a gentle layer of music on top of that and you have the sounds of a Coffee Shop. You almost nail it. Almost.
Awesome place! They have oat milk! Great atmosphere. They believe everyone should have access up clean drinking water - and they back it up by offering both plain and sparkling self serve water on the house.
We ordered 3 hot chocolates. All 3 were not even warm. My friend asked for another one. They nicely accepted but the replaced drink, although better than the previous ones, was still nothing close to hot.
Very cozy little coffeeshop with high quality coffee!! Service is fantastic and you get a free cup of coffee if you buy their backyard bean coffee! Would definitely go back!
Cute little alley spot with a good amount of seating. Very friendly and helpful staff. The draft latte was pretty much exactly my favorite drink, a light, non-watery iced latte. The pastry was okay, exactly as they described but not mind blowing.
The best coffee! It would be nice if they added Matcha lattes and more seating inside and outside
The location is very cool and convenient, and it gets so much natural light that it makes for a great working spot in the neighborhood. I cant get fully on board with coffee shops that dont have good chai / tea options so it wont be my top choice, but Ill come back with friends and for other goodies like their fresh juices, but will probably go elsewhere for my caffeine fix.
I got an espresso here and it was great. The service was quick and it was great to see they had sparkling water on tap. The space was open and welcoming inside the shop. I loved the location of the coffee shop in the middle of the alley.
Neat little place! Wasnt in the mood for coffe so had an Earl Grey- very nice! Love the atmosphere, very calm. No wifi, which was a bummer because I needed to work, but other than that, lovely stop.
For a chain coffee shop the coffee was pretry good, but not as smooth as I would like it. The pastry I had really needed to be warmed, an option that was not offered. Will see what next time will be like. The place is small, but very nice. A place that I would enjoy working from if I lived in the district. Very rustic...
Great coffee. Even better staff. My go-to for coffee in DC. Always a great pour over selection.
Great coffee and super cute place. Definitely worth going off the main road for!
Great local coffee shop; no frills, just great coffee. There are no flavored syrups if youre a Starbucks drinker, but it you like French presses, this is your place. A great hidden spot if youre at the convention center, but it stays busy.
This place is well hidden! I found this place by mistake, but was so happy to have found it. The coffee here is very good! I had an amazing cappuccino here, the foam was very nice! The coffee cups are cute, very colorful! There is outdoor seating as well as indoor seating.
Good coffee, but pastries were not fresh and disappointing. Way too pricy for the quality they offer
Pretty cool find, with great coffee. Off the beaten path, but if you know your way around this part of Shaw, it is an easy stop (if walking) to grab a good latte. Lots of windows, open air feeling on nicer days. Not the best if you are driving and need a place to park to grab a quick cup of coffee.
