Milkbar is one of my favorite spots in DC to grab a treat. Ive been to this location several times now and always crave their cereal milk soft serve, Im also a big fan of their cookies. Their lattes are a little bit of a miss for me so I usually tend to avoid them.My most recent visit was pleasant and the staff were very friendly, even going so far as to offering us a sample of their different ice cream flavors. My only complaint is that they don’t openly offer glasses or jugs of just their cereal milk as id love to use it in a cocktail at home.Overall a great place to go for a desert and I’m sure I’ll be back soon.
Their small Milkquake (got the chocolate one) was the perfect midday snack to cool off after walking around The Wharf. Line was long, but moved quickly. If your favorite cookie isn’t in the display, ask at the counter, they will likely have it - product moves quickly and they’re probably too busy filling orders to re-stock.
Just happened to see the story of MILK on Netflix and then walked right by this one while exploring the wharf, its brand new. Small little place serving all the normal stuff and k own for things being made with cereal milk which gives it a cool spin. Birthday cake shake is different and so good! Chocolate shake was also good but birthday cake is the way to go. Also tried the cake of course, light moist, sweet frosting, totally great and the colors and unfrosted sides make it so cool.
I got the Frits cereal baby shake. It was $6, way too expensive for that little shake. For what it was, it was ok. The shop is small with limited seating. I think it was a little overrated but I’ve only tried one menu item so far. The location could be hard to miss as it’s not on the mai strip. If you are at the corner of Dolcezza make a right and you can’t miss it on the right.
Milk bar at the wharf is a very nice location. If you havent been to milk bar before they have great cookies and soft serve ice-cream. You can get those cookies turned into and ice cream sandwich if youd like. They offer baking supplies and books as well. They also make milkshakes. I feel that it is a little expensive for soft serve.
Would give this no stars if I could. The aesthetic of place seems cool but don’t let it fool you. We walked in more than an hour before close and the employees were playing loud music, not paying attention, and seemingly closing up shop. When I ordered the worker literally asked me to repeat myself because he wasn’t listening. And the ice cream itself? Gross. I got the swirl of both flavors and it was nasty. I’m not ever known to throw away food yet alone ice cream but this went straight to the trash. Wasted $6 and got ice cream at another place instead. Don’t waste your time!
I learned about Milk Bar and Christina Tosi on Netflix’s Chef’s Table and was excited to check it out! The staff here at the DC Wharf store were very friendly and patient with me as I took in all the choices! They gladly answered my questions as I settled on the iconic cereal milk soft serve with their recommended cereal crunch topper. It was delicious and I will be back for a second visit before my trip is over!
We stumbled across this Christina Tosi gem in South Waterfront when we were just trolling the Wharf. For the record, YOU CAN just get a slice of cake. We got a MilkQuake and it was quite possibly THE most delicious thing Ive ever eaten in my entire life.We also got some pre packaged cookie treats to go, so we can continue to enjoy her awesomeness at a later date.Christina Tosi. YOU GET IT, GURRRRL!!
I was honestly disappointed, it seems all hype. It didnt appear that they bake anything at this location. We bought a few cookies but I was disappointed that they were all sealed up individually in plastic bags made in a facility in Brooklyn. My son ate half of his cookie and threw the rest away. They are cash free, so only electronic payments.
The milk bar at the wharf is not only a cute outlet but also serves yumm cookies. I recommend you to try about the cereal milk soft serve and chocolate cookies. The staff is very warm and friendly and makes your visit worthwhile. Must visit for all cookie lovers!
Straight out of a pop song, Milk is vibrant and full of color. They offer a variety of sweets in the forms of cookies and shakes. I ordered one of the shakes and it was good. Tasted like a drinkable cereal, which is what it was pretty much going for.The place was clean, and service was quick. They even have a bathroom! Its a good place to hang out post dinner or just as an afternoon snack to beat the summer heat.
I just left the Wharf location, & boy let me tell you! The three employees behind the counter were very patient and helpful! Their customer service was outstanding! I highly recommended anyone to come here! The soft serve there is amazing! (Get the Milk bar pie)
In short, my criticisms are the taste of their desserts, staff that seemed indifferent towards customers, and their high prices given the serving sizes and tastes of their desserts. I gave two stars instead of one because their milk bar pie is good; although it’s not good enough to justify its price. My brother went to Milk Bar in NYC and highly recommended it to our family; specifically, he really liked the cereal milk soft serve and milk bar pie. This location did not live up to the expectations his review set. I don’t think this means Milk Bar itself is bad though. The location in NYC might be better than others outside NYC. The cereal milk ice cream I’ve eaten before tastes like the milk leftover from a bowl of sweet cereal, like lucky charms. Their cereal milk ice cream is slightly salty rather than sweet which I didn’t like. I would complain about the small serving serving size given its price, but I didn’t think it was worth eating, so I wouldn’t have wanted more. The milk bar pie tastes kinda like a pecan pie but much more dense which gives it a nice texture. However the flavor is not significantly better than a store-bought pecan pie (like from Walmart), and the serving was absurdly small compared to its price. The man behind the counter wasn’t mean, but he did seem disinterested in us. He spent a few seconds talking to and laughing with some women sitting behind us while we stood in front of him. I’ve already said enough about their high prices. I don’t think you should go here.
I took my boys to get a treat and then visited the wharf for some crabs. My youngest dropped his hot cocoa in the water, but the team at this location were so nice and remade his drink. It was ready for us when we went back!🤗Very satisfied with our visit!💪🏾💯 we will be back!
First time being at milk bar and this is actually the first location In dc(I’ve been to the NY ones) But let me tell you the atmosphere wasn’t great. I saw a couple of girls chatting and didn’t speak to my friends and I and another girl standing at the computer. She spoke while others were talking amongst themselves away from the front. I wish I would’ve gotten their names but oh well. The one at the computer helped me with my order and offered great selections but I wish everyone would have been more engaging with me and my family but the the Milk Bar Pie was Great!
Been really wanting to try this place. Came here with my family and the customer service was just bad. The girl behind the counter was rude and did not look happy to be there at all. This place has a lot of potential but they really need to consider getting better employee training or just better employees in general.
Stopped by the Wharf just a few moments ago. The staff was super friendly! The place is small but very cute and clean! Def recommend!!!
Came in the store yesterday and boy was it crowded! But luckily enough I was first in line! Super busy but the cashier with the bright hair made the experience very enjoyable. My favorite desert was the crack pie! Also great music!!
I was so excited for a highly rated dessert shop to open in my neighborhood but this place is gross! I went with my boyfriend and tried all the cookies and a milkshake! So sweet its sickening. The cake batter in the milkshakes made my teeth hurt and my eyes go cross. You can feel the sugar grits in your teeth as you chew the cookies! Save yourself the trip and just eat a spoonful of brown sugar at home. I think the crack pie servings are so small because otherwise youll go to diabetic shock. It was weird that they had cookie mix on display for sale. It made me realize that there is no on-site chef and I could make better cookies just by mixing from a box at home. Am I a pastry chef too?The prices are ridiculous! The cookies are cold. They are made in New York and shipped in stale every day. Cookies are meant to be fresh!!! These are gourmet cookies at gourmet prices and they were made yesterday??The name reminds me of Clockwork Orange and so did my experience.
The name of this place is Milk . Well, this milk was stale. Expired. Nasty.Congratulations, by the way. Im a DC native and this goes down as the worst establishment Ive ever had the unfortunate pleasure to visit. And it took 20 min.Terrible service. My husband ordered a coffee and it was so cold, it could be ice coffee. They heated it up in a microwave and left it there without telling us it was heated. After 10 minutes, we asked and it was cold again. This was strike 1. Disgusting milkshakes. I had to return the atrocious cereal milk shake. It was so mediocre, unnecessarily sweet yet had the most insanely disgusting flavor,EVER. This was strike 2. I asked for something else which I also thought was terrible (chocolate I believe) and this was the final strike. The people in the store all agreed too which was in itself baffling.Absolutely disgusting and they dare charge 10 freaking dollars for this garbage. I wouldnt recommend this place, ever!!!I noticed the owner replying with the copy and paste reply about fine products and ingredients being used .Well, look at your reviews. This isnt high quality when more then half your reviews are 1 star. Re-evaluate your product because its bad.
We were excited to try a new place. We walked in the door and no one greeted us or asked if we had any questions. After looking over the menu we asked about the pie. The young girl behind the counter replied in a monotonous voice that it was just butter and brown sugar basically. She never smiled or made any suggestions. We decided this was not the atmosphere we wanted to do business in.
Huge disappointment!!!! Huge!!! Cake was dry as hay!!! Waited on line for 45 minutes & definitely not worth it. My friend did not care for her chocolate chip cereal cookie. Looked dry as well. Will never return after spending close to $15!!
I was so disappointed with this place. My sister in law and I had watched the Netflix documentary on Chef’s Table, and we’re excited to try this place.Everything is pre-packaged. Nothing I’m glass counters like I was hoping for. Almost seems like nothing is made fresh there, but shipped from NY (not sure about that, but that’s what I assumed).Soft serve was... weird. I was kind of expecting a sweeter taste. It’s kind of salty. Cookies are decent, not the best. Cake truffles had an odd taste. Crack pie was awesome though! Just very small and expensive.
Customer service was outstanding. Very friendly and helpful. But the food was only so-so. The cereal softserve was ok, but nothing I’d want a lot of. The milk softserve was tasteless. The compost cookie wasn’t horrible, but one bite was more than what I wanted. I didn’t even try the blueberry and cream. Maybe they’re better soft and warm, instead of cold from a package.
So disappointed. Over priced and over hyped. We tried the ice cream and milk shakes and we ended up throwing both out...which is something we never ever do. The crack pie was good...but the slice was seriously small...way smaller then youd expect for a 6 dollar piece of pie. We were so excited and it just didnt live up to the hype at all.
The lady working tonight was so rude and unwelcoming. She acted like I was inconveniencing her, despite the fact that there were 2 hours left before they close. I had this on my list of places to visit while in D.C., and was completely disappointed with the experience. The cake was my main reason for going, and it was so dry. Doubt I’ll return to give it a second try.
The ice cream is very good! It taste just like milk and cereal. My mom and I love it very much.
I went into the shop to get a piece of birthday cake that I had heard about on Netflix but only saw an entire cake on the menu. I got a milkshake instead. Way, way, way too expensive for the tiny portion I got. After drinking my milkshake, I saw a sign that said I could get just a piece of cake, but I didn’t see any cake displayed. I was definitely not going to spend any additional money at the shop so I didn’t ask if slices were available. I would not recommend this place. Save your money—not worth it in my opinion.
My experience at the Milk Bar wharf location was awesome. The staff was warm and welcoming. The atmosphere was great. The coookies i love those corn cookies yall showed out when yall made those. If you havent been make sure you try them out!!!!!!!
Just left the milk bar at the wharf the place is amazing, the staff were very helpful and they took there time to ensure that I was happy with my choice. I would recommend this place to everyone!
I’ve been to Milk Bar in the Chinatown area, next to Momofoku, and the original NYC location. This place has the basic flavors of milk bar, but if you want experience or any semblance of service, you’re better off at a Cold Stone or other dessert franchise. On top of taking 15-20 minutes for a single, small size soft serve, the cashiers were rude and unwelcome. I should never feel like I’m an inconvenience to someone I’m paying my money to for a good and service. Also, 15 minutes for a soft and serve and my order was wrong? No thank you, I’ll go to the grocery aisle for some Ben and Jerry’s.
Had a great experience! Was a little worried based on the mixed reviews but we had excellent service and loved the chocolate birthday shake!
Rude customer service, very slow, expensive for small portions, and to top it all off the product wasnt much better than Dairy Queen. When I got my milkquake it was half melted and dripping over the sides and I picked it up immediately after they called my name. I recommend avoiding.
I was so excited to try this place because of the hype but after this experience I wouldnt recommend coming here. Not only is it incredibly overpriced (even for DCs standards), but the cereal milk was beyond disgusting--- it tasted like it had been spoiled for days. The cookies were hard and looked like they had been sitting there for quite a while as well. I wouldve been open to coming again because I hadnt tried the cake, but the service wasnt up to par either-- the salesperson looked and acted so annoyed by us coming I didnt even bother approaching and asking about the milkshakes. If you want something sweet there are so many great places in Georgetown and the rest of the city-- dont bother with Milk Bar
Honestly, I went to Milk Bar with high expectations after seeing the Netflix documentary. We entered this location at the wharf and were barely greeted. There was nobody else in the store and at least one employee was just looking at her phone. The young lady at the register didn’t act like she wanted to be there. I was surprised at the prices being so high, and was disappointed that the crack pie was pre-packaged and cold.. and such a small slice! The soft serve was good. I really wanted an “authentic” experience but this didn’t feel like one. While I’m glad I tried it, as this was only my second time in DC, I unfortunately wouldn’t return. For management, I would encourage the employees to be more welcoming and enthusiastic. That lack of warmth set an unpleasant tone for me. From reading other reviews on here, it seems the customer service is a continual problem. Is anything being done to address this?
The only reason I’m giving this a one star is because this is the worst service I’ve ever received in my life. Food is amazing. Employees literally do not care.
I dont understand why the other reviews are so bad. Our experience was not bad at all. The food tasted good. The staff was nice.
Yall should not be closed.... Sad face
I ordered from Milk Bar on Postmates. The cookies were delicious - but the milkshake was a bit overpriced. $6 for 7oz, yes thats smaller than the smallest Starbucks drink and pricier than the largest. (And to be honest I wouldve rather had Starbucks than waste money and calories on this mediocre milkshake.) HOWEVER- The cookies get an A++, I recommend the double chocolate and the compost cookie.
I have been shopping with Milk for quite some time now and just was in love with the fruity peeble soft serve. I was sad when it was replaced but surprisingly, I liked their new compost flavor as well. The best thing i have discovered they offered was the Milk Bar Pie which was formally know as Crack Pie. It seems so simple but they flavors blend together so well that its almost euphoric. Every time I have visited the wharf location i have been greated and treated amazingly. MY first time i went in they had samples waiting to be devoured by the door and soft ready for sampling as well. At first it was overwhelming so many sweets to try at once. From that day one all it took was one free sample and i was hooked. #Highly Recommend #Delicious #Award Winner #WharfMilk #Milk Bar # Is #Life!!
Im sure this place is to someones taste, but not mine. The staff was very friendly, and they offered generous free samples of the ice cream. But everything here tastes salty. And its too expensive for what you get - 6 bucks for a milk shake the size of 1.5 dixie cups? In this economy? Even the chocolate chip cookie was salty. I get that sweet/salty is a thing, especially lately, but theres just a pinch too much.
Miniquakes are probably the perfect amount of ice cream for an after dinner/lunch treat. I had the BDay Mini-quake it was good. Prices are little high for what you get but also what you would expect in the renovated Wharf area.
The corn cookie, crack pie and the cereal milk are my favorites. Not everything is good but when they do it right it’s amazing
Ice cream tasted like spoiled milk and the cookies were stale. Our group all took a single bite of our food before throwing it in the trash. You could get better deserts at 711.
Excellent customer service, great product offerring. My fav: Birthday Cake!!
I’ve been here twice and both times the desserts were absolutely awful & overpriced. Vibe is cute tho.
Compared to the milk bar at city center, this location is terrible. The birthday cake shake was half sprinkles with no birthday cake truffle chunks. Good service but quality isn’t there.
The ice cream is very sweet and salty too, but the worst is the attention of two girls.
Service here is nothing like the one at city center. Employees are rude and on their phones and constantly having conversations amongst themselves as customers are trying to place orders
Too few options without classics. And tasted funky like milk after eating all the cereal
Steer clear!!! Stopped in here for a treat after our anniversary lunch- Won’t be returning. We order the truffles and they were pure dough- not cake like we were expecting. And they were cold. Both my husband and I now have upset stomachs thanks to that nastiness!
I had been looking forward to going here since I seen it on chefs table. But it was the complete opposite of the bubbly place i had imagined. Staff was rude. Another customer ordered something and a worker shouted I dont have that youre going to have to get something else no apology and her tone was not the nicest. I got two cookies and they were garbage. The store had been open for an hour and they already actin like they wanted to be anywhere but work.
The bagel bomb was ok. Wasnt bad I had the bacon scallion cream cheese version. Had a blueberry cookie and thought it was horrible. It was in a pre package so it to me didnt seem as if it was freshly baked and it tasted old.
The fruit loops ice cream was recommended to me as well as the cherry blossom cookie. They both tasted soooo bad. The cookie was bitter and flavorful. They also looked old, like they had been seating for a while. The ice cream with the corn flakes tasted like spoiled milk with salt flakes. It was so nasty I literally gagged. Idk if it was bad but it was so nasty. But after reading a few reviews im guessing its just the favor. The cereal milk ice cream is something I would stay away from. Noone seems to like them.
Your staff were fantastic! Crack pie and pumpkin dulece de leche truffles were too sweet. Its not a stop I want to make again.
Overpriced, ordering a milkshake took 10+ minutes and there was no one line. The milkshake itself was unimpressive. Very disappointed as I had heard such great things
They didnt have any gluten free b-day cake bombs. The flagship store was better.
Delicious corn cookies and cereal milk soft serve!!
Solid delicate soft serve thats not really on the rich side but still has good mouthfeel.
Still not open. Our team scheduled time to go to the event advertised online for the opening today from 12PM-2PM. We arrived at 12:30PM hoping we werent too late, and found a closed/locked door. No signage or anything letting us know the opening was cancelled. We called the sister store in DC and the person was very rude saying they know the article said today but the opening was cancelled because the of the Health Department.
Spent $6 on soft serve that I took two bites of then immediately threw out. Absolutely disgusting.
WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! I work in the area and the warf in SW DC is booming with new businesses and restaurants. After having a business lunch my friend and I spotted Milk Bar and wanted to know what “Milk” was all about. We walked in to the chic looking bakery (or whatever it is- I still don’t know) and there were no customers- just 3 bored employees that were clearly annoyed with our presence. I told them we had never been into the store, so could they tell us about it-history/concept. They blankly looked at us and one of them said, “There’s nothing to tell”. Okie dokie....they have baskets of unusual cookies (corn, “garbage”, double chocolate, and confetti). I looked at the menu and saw they had cake. I ordered a piece of confetti cake- I asked if it had butter cream frosting or cream cheese (not a fan of cream cheese on regular white cakes). After a long pause the sales person said, “regular butter frosting”. I also got a chocolate chip cookie with cornflakes and coconut. The piece of cake was pulled out of a fridge, pre-cut and pre packaged in a box that looked like it had seen better days (and I’m pretty sure- frozen at some point). The grand total was $14.00 (yes- 14.00 US Dollars!) The cookie was just OK- I can make better at home. The cake was a disappointment. It did in fact have cream cheese in the frosting- not heavy- but enough to notice. The cake was dry and the slice was the size of something you would get off a sheet cake from Costco. The whole experience was sad. Someone spent a ton of money on this business but no one is minding the store. What a simple thing to greet customers and share the story of your business- but I guess that was too much for the 3 bored employees to handle. If you want a FABULOUS cake experience go to Danielle’s Desserts on Constitution Ave or in Tysons galleria. That is a life changing cake experience. I discovered her place after seeing an article written up in Oprah’s magazine and Danielle’s is the real deal- great food great service. Danielle is at one of the stores every time I go and is always warm and friendly. Something that’s part of why I love supporting small businesses. As for MILK Bar- pass it up and pick up a gallon of Milk at the grocery store along with a cookie. The quality will be the same at 1/3 the price. I’ve never seen anyone make milk and cookies depressing, but this group managed to do it.
I dont understand why the guy working there has his pants so low that you can see his butt and underwear. Bothered that you asked a question.
Doesn’t accept cash which is ridiculous. cuts out my business among others
Altho the bdayquake was tasty, it was too expensive for not being special
Cool look and location, but staff was unfriendly and store was short on cookies. Also, the “cereal milk” flavoring and birthday cake flavors are not for everyone.
Fine if you like sprinkles and unenthusiastic service
Delicious ice cream! very friendly staff!warning they dont take cash
Cereal milk soft serve tasted like sour milk. Ridiculous prices
Staff was not happy to be there. Desserts were dissapointing.
I eat Milk Bar cookies all the time. This location just has terrible customer service and I will go back to city center spot.
Chocolate Bday cake milkshake was literally all sprinkles.
I had high expectations after eating their truffles through the mail but the in person experience left much to be desired. Really didnt enjoy anything I got (truffles, shake, ice cream) and threw some of it away. On top of that, the pricing is really high, especially for the serving size. Wouldnt bother going in.
Everything was way over priced and it didnt taste very good
Overpriced! Dissappointed by hard stale cookies. This place is has lost quality.
We make trips to DC a couple times a year just to get their truffles and crack pie.
Awesome icecream!
Really neat ice cream
Just do this... spend five minutes outside the store watching people take their first bite before you buy anything. Itll save you a lot of money. This stuff is really gross.
I find the cookies to be stale.
Beyond sinful x.x
Delicious but expensive
