Really wonderful coffee shop, and I absolutely love the Ethiopian influence. It’s something so unique to a coffee shop. Nice to have a place highlighting Ethiopian coffees!I got a very delicious everything bagel here as well (see picture below 😜).The shop itself has cozy, quiet vibes (at least when I was there), and great service! The other cool thing is they serve some Ethiopian food - also see the picture below! Didn’t get to try that since it was breakfast time, but would love to try it someday.Look forward to returning.#sidamo #coffee #tea #Ethiopian #cozy #everythingbagel
Went here for breakfast after staying at an air bnb nearby. They have several vegan options, including a vegan breakfast (hummus, tomato, lettuce, avocado on a bagel) that was DELICIOUS, and some vegan cookies as well. We also got the Ethiopian coffee service which was really special and comes with burning incense that really adds to the olfactory experience. I’m sad we’ll be leaving today but I’m so glad we came. The wait was a bit long, but worth it.
Great place to hang out! It gives me a different kind of comfort every time I visited this coffee shop. I am such a huge fan of their iced mocha. This place is really worth visiting alone or with your friends and family. No one can beat their excellent customer service, good coffee, and affordable prices. Highly recommended!
This coffee shop nailed it when it comes to cozy vibes. There are comfy couches, chairs, and plants everywhere. The staves are nice and the atmosphere overall is wonderful. All of the staff were really accommodating and personable. Their coffee is good and one of a kind. I highly recommend this place to all coffee addicts.
A cosy Ethiopian coffee store owned by Ethiopians. The owners are lovely and you immediately feel welcome. Great place to start your day 😄
The older man (owner) is very rude and crotchety. I felt unwelcome as a customer. He actually seems to dislike most customers and is only pleasant to friends or family that come into the cafe. He also seems personally offended if you ask any questions about the menu whatsoever. I gave 2 stars because the chai latte is very good and their breakfast sandwiches are generally decent. The other workers that run the counter and fill the orders are always very nice and friendly so its unfortunate that his rudeness overshadows their efforts. I wont be returning.
If you dont go to Sidamo Coffee and Tea while youre in D.C. youll be missing out on one of the greatest if not the single best coffee spots in the cityAnd I honestly would feel sorry for you.Get your coffee here and forget about Starbucks, dude.I have to go back to Puerto Rico soon and I am sincerely going to miss the Caramellatte and the chai tea they have. Ditto for the Apple Crumb Cake. 🥺Also the owner and employees are super nice and cordial. Couldnt visit for two weeks due to quarantine and they remembered me when I came back. 💖🥺😭
Wonderful, family owned coffee shop. Good breakfast, lunch and pastries. Fresh coffee choices. Small tables outside to enjoy the day.
Love, Love, LOVE IT! Kind staff, great pastries and breakfast/lunch sandwiches, amazing coffee, calming vibe, what else can you ask for?Location: Fulton, MD
Awesome place!!! Pet friendly to the backyard patio. You wont be disappointed in the food/coffee and the backyard patio has a beautiful garden.
My favorite coffee shop in D.C.! I used to live on 11th St. NE and walk here every weekend to sip coffee at the counter. The owners are a joy: welcoming, lively, and go above and beyond to make you feel at home in their cozy shop. If you like your coffee strong, full-bodied, and dark, Sidamo is a must visit.
I don’t know where to start. This place may serve the best coffee in all of Washington. It’s a gem. I moved to another part of the city, rather far, but make a point to hop on the red line to union station and walk over every weekend. Come on Sunday for the Ethiopian coffee ceremony.
Eclectic without the pretentious air of other urban cafes. All of their coffee are Ethiopian blends. Sidamo coffee is a true treasure- the owners social responsibility stretches beyond his single sourced coffee; I noticed his staff are newly minted Americans.Intimate space, come with a small group- MAX 2ppl. Interior can host only around 20ppl. There is outside seating- but its winter. They have a small breakfast and lunch menu. Very vegetarian friendly (it is an Ethiopian spot).Street parking/zone 6, free on weekends.Yelp offer with check-in!
This is one of my favorite coffee/tea shops in the whole City. Everyone is so kind and helpful. You feel like family. They have a great selection of loose tea. Delicious!!!
Warm and quiet. My hot chocolate was delicious. Wonderful service. Will be back more frequently.
Wonderful tasting coffee! I’m never going to Starbucks again if I can help it
I brought my five year old son with me and everyone was pleasant and I now prefer an Ethiopian Dark roast. Looking forward to coming back to D.C. for business and lunch🤓
I have been here multiple times and had amazing coffee, lattes and vibes. There is a secret garden in the back you can use in the spring and summer and thr owner roasts his own beans every few days. You know youre getting the best here. He can be a little bit gruff, but no more so than a grandfather. If you ask him, he can tell you all about your coffee
Great Chai latte, and good customer service
Excellent Chai tea
A wonderful and warm neighborhood coffee shop serving delicious single origin coffee from Ethiopia.Beyond Sidamos coffee selection is a nice menu of baked pastries, breakfast sandwiches, salads, smoothies, and even a short list of wines. The atmosphere is its best trait. The owner is always there and his staff is extremely friendly and customer focused.
Amazing coffee in history
Fantastic Ethiopian coffee. A staple on H street. Highly recommend.
The coffee and pastries were excellent! I saw people complaining the service wasnt fast enough but for the quality of the coffee I certainly dont mind waiting. We visited Sidamo a few times while visiting DC.
Have been missing Sidamo since I moved away from Capitol Hill. The cafe is so cozy with a hidden back patio. The Chai Leben is amazing and well worth the wait. And pre-pandemic, every Sunday at 2pm the staff would hold an in-store coffee roasting with free samples. Always smelled and tasted delicious. While Slipstream across the Street in the Apollo Building might have more seating space, I always try for Sidamo first as they’re truly unique!
Nice quaint coffee house with character. The coffee is really good and if you like teach I do recommend the peach, mango, or Earl Gray. What I love most though is the staff. The owner makes you feel so welcomed here. I highly recommend this place.
Amazing coffee and great to support this family-owned business!
The older gentleman (who seems to be the owner) is so rude that I wont be back.
WORST SERVICE EVER. We ordered breakfast sandwiches, theyre out of croissants, but didnt tell us, but charged us extra $.50 for everything bagel. We only realized after we paid and got the receipt. We were just waiting to get our food and got yelled at by the cashier, something like What are you doing? Go sit down and wait, we have a lot of customers, its gonna be 20 minutes20 MINS FOR SOME SANDWICHES?????A server came out and told us theyre out of everything bagel and theres only plain bagel left. Finally, the cashier delivered and YELLED at us.
Good food, fast service. I also liked the paintings on the walls, gave a really nice ambiance and splash of color to the place.😊
6 Stars. Hands down the best coffee in the city. Its the only coffee in the city that I dont add milk to.It can sometimes be hard to find a seat, but they have a nice space outside in the back thats very sunny. They also do roasting demonstrations on Sundays if you want to learn about the process of what goes into making delicious coffee.
Wonderful coffee shop; one of the best places overall on H Street, and certainly the best cafe in NE. The owner is wonderful -- will not hesitate to give you a bit of cheek if you happen any faux pas. Great tea selection, and a fantastic outdoor area (the indoor section is often fairly cramped when busy, and it can be nice to spread out a bit outside).
DONT GO! BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! Awful customer service today. The clerk did not greet or say hello as I ordered a coffee, paid more attention to the guy behind waiting in line. I asked about the new happy hour menu and the guy just gave me a non reply. Also the clerk told me there is a two hour limit or something? Not sure what that means? BAD VIBES ALL AROUND. Never going back.
Delicious coffee and a wonderful little, quiet garden retreat in the back (although the DC mosquitos are still bitin).
Wonderful family owned and operated coffee shop specializing in freshly roasted Ethiopian coffee. Friendly atmosphere and great service!
Very good place
My absolute fave coffee spot in DC. Nothing else like it ❤️
Awesome experience! The coffee is really good, and the staff is very friendly. We were sitting in the cafe and they provided us with free espresso (they freshly roasted the beans in front of us) and banana coffee cake :)
Wonderful, quiet, relaxing. The morning chai was delicious and the perfect thing on a cold winter day. Thank you.
Comfortable coffee and tea spot. Not fast but delicious and great to warm up after being out in the cold
Sidamo is my fave coffee shop in the city. With so many to choose from now, Sidamo is still a place with heart and a great familial feeling. The food is delicious, and Im especially fond of their tea cakes and veggie foul. They serve extremely good coffee, strong and flavourful, and the service is always friendly and kind.
This is a wonderful place to read, chat, eat and have a coffee. The coffee is excellent and dont miss their vegetarian Beyaynetu.
I had a layover at Union Station and walked over here to get a little work done. The server was friendly and the atmosphere pleasant. The mango iced tea was refreshing. Seating is a little tight but I was comfortable and able to get work done. The wireless was fast enough and reliable.
The best coffee this coffee drinker has tasted in quite a while. And the bagel breakfasts were quick, hot, flavorful and filling. A very pleasant environment. I just hope they can expand because the place can be crowded. If you can eat outside, the experience is even better.
Small family owned Ethiopian joint on H Street that has the BEST chai in DC that Ive found. Its spicy without being overwhelming. There arent too many spots to study if its a busy day, but the drinks are worth stopping in for. Highly recommend it.
They have this wonderful Lentil sandwich served on. 7 grain bread with lettuce, tomato, avocado & pesto spread. Amazing! Definitely one to try for lunch! So order early!
Sidamo is the best coffee shop ever. I used to live nearby and always make time for a visit when Im back in DC. I love Ethiopian coffee, and Sidamo roasts on-site so it doesnt get any fresher than this. They make amazing espresso drinks. No one else does foam like Sidamo. Even a soy cappuccino (which is usually a little limp elsewhere) comes out frothy and delightful. Bulk coffee is a bargain and they also have very good tea and sandwiches. The large front window, high tin ceiling and rotating artwork contribute to a bright, cheery atmosphere. Space is tight but the quiet back patio is lovely when the weather is nice. They will never pressure you to hurry or leave.Service is generally very friendly, especially if the owner is there (the staff sometimes refuse to serve drinks in real porcelain unless he is around, which is annoying). If you are there at the right time you may get to chat with Kenfe while he roasts coffee, or enjoy a traditional coffee-roasting ceremony (Sunday afternoons at 2pm). I credit them with starting the H St Renaissance.
My visit was 15 seconds long. Came in with two other people, and immediately noticed an unpleasant smell. A man who seemed to be the owner, muttered something indifferently over his shoulder. When I approach him, I realize he is complaining about us out because I have a coffee from elsewhere in my hand. We just left.
Came in and went to counter to order. Owner was sitting close by and saw me while he was texting. I tried to get his attention politely but he ignored me. Ive visited multiple times and although the interactions with the baristas have been pleasant, the old man(I assume is the owner) has always been cold and rude.
Visited D.C. on July 15-16 and of course had to find the perfect coffee shop to try the morning before going back to Raleigh, NC. Researched a few places and settled on this place. The coffee was outstanding and the location was perfect; not to mention the nice little area out back with all the greenery. Definitely a go to place for my next foray to the city!
The coffee is good but unexceptional. Pastries are pretty good, they have a croissant/muffin hybrid sort of thing thats quite good. Breakfast sandwiches are mixed... Great bagel, but terrible egg and the cheese is almost definitely Kraft. Still probably the best coffee shop on H Street
This is a neat place with a relaxing environment. Perfect place to stop for a great cup of coffee and breakfast.
Sidamo has amazing Ethiopian coffees. Cool place with bags of coffee beans everywhere.
A must go anytime Im in DC. Rich and delicious coffee roasted in house, very reasonable prices, and a cozy space to work, read, or sit and enjoy a great cup.
Lovely music, inviting decor, and the best chai latte and pineapple smoothie. Pleasantpersonnel.
I went to Sidamo because the ratings were so high. Unfortunately my experience wasnt that great. The older guy that is always there is not friendly at all. He only seemed to smile for familiar faces. I gave two stars because my White Mocha and the chicken sandwhich was delicious.
Love this shop! Delicious coffee and kind staff! This is a must stop the next time i’m in the District!
I tried Ethiopian coffee and it was not that good. I tried to get explanation from the barista about different blends but he wasnt able to explain anything. The interior is a bit crowded and not very pleasant for work. There is only one standing table and it is not the most stable one. H street is a cool place and it is at good location. But I wish they would improve customer service and maybe take out few tables to have more space.
Its the perfect spot if you have an appreciation for single-origin coffee. Ethiopia has some of the best coffee beans and I went here for this specific reason. They roast their own beans here so you cant really ask for much more. Their pour-overs are solid and its a great spot to work remotely through the day. It doesnt seem to get too overcrowded and the tables are big enough for a laptop, along with fast WIFI and outlets conveniently located. For those complaining about the man being rude, hes only human and I didnt get any bad/rude vibes from him at all. Just be respectful of the shop!
Dont see what the hype is about. The vaunted single origin is the norm for most small cafes and coffee shops. Seems like a place for locals, but if you enjoy coffee, this is not your place. The espresso was served burnt and in a tall to go cup. Youre better off heading down the street to Maketto.
Small hole in the wall coffee place next to the nandos on H Street. They have good cake and coffee
A small neighborhood coffee shop with a nice ambiance. I really enjoy the outdoor seating in the summertime, its like your are sitting in a garden. The owner and employees are always nice. They have great tasting coffee and a variety of loose leaf teas - you gotta try the chai tea.
The best.DeliciousQuietNeed say more...oh i forgot to mentionFRESH🙌
If you want excellent not run of the mill coffee. Sidamo is for you. Weekend mornings be prepared to wait. The line can get long, but its worth the wait!
Great coffee place the employees always are friendly and helpful.
One of the best local coffee shops. Never really had time to sit there and enjoy my coffee but their to-go options are equally good.Once I stopped there for morning coffee and got free breakfast and coffee from Angel from Hell promo team. Fun times!
Cozy, small coffee shop. Delicious blends and very friendly staff! Food selection is slim
This place is great, theyll do a coffee ceremony with traditional jebena. I also convinced them to make me lowz macchiato with peanut butter! Very nice
This place has wonderful coffee. They roast their own beans. They are always friendly and its a great place to ait and enjoy coffee or you can take it to go.
Good coffee of course and their outdoor garden is precious. They give you your tea with a small timer to allow you to determine the strength if your brewing tea
Sidamo lives in the ranks of DCs best coffee shops. Fantastic coffee they roast in house (that I use for my pour over at home everyday) and fantastic espresso. They have a nice, dog-friendly patio, and the owner is always there to greet you with a handshake and hello. Truly one of DCs finest establishments.
Really good coffee. I highly recommend the iced jamocha. Its family-run and locally managed.
Arguably the friendliest and most authentic cafe you’ll find in DC. Run by an Ethiopian family, beans are roasted directly in the cafe. Lots of love poured into every cup.
Good coffee and good service. The place to visit if you give an authentic Ethiopian coffee a try. It’d be better with friends of two or three.
Really good coffee. I highly recommend the iced jamocha. Its family-run and locally managed.
Awesome coffee
Great coffee, and be sure to get their Ethiopian lunch plate if youre hungry, it was one of the best Ethiopian meals Ive had in a while
Went for breakfast with some friends and we ordered different things. I had the chai tea latte and croissant sandwich, it was to die for. Place was very relaxing and staff were very friendly and attentive. All in all, a good experience.
I got the lunch combo, it was delicious. The space is really intimate, I sense a local vibe. Also, Im sitting next to Rev Angel Kyodo Williams!!!! What an experience.
Great atmosphere, free wifi, and delicious breakfast sandwich. My coffee was great too. Small outdoor patio you can enjoy in nice weather.
Great spot to sit and do work although its a small space and can get crowded. Lots of tea options and good coffee. Not too many gluten-free food options.
Like the other bad reviews say, the older man who takes the orders is not friendly and comes off rude. I ordered a mocha and veggie breakfast. I asked him what a veggie breakfast was and he was having a hard time telling me. Just write it on your menu and i wont ask questions. I waited 30mins for a veggie sandwhich which never came. They said sorry and then the ladies made me the wrong sandwhich. They all seem confused there. Never going there again for food. The only good thing was their coffee. The mocha was delicious though.
Very hot coffee! Nice staff but not 100% customer service oriented. Beware of the HOT coffee.
I love that cafe. Brings me back to home. Strong coffee. But the space is tight though.
Small hole in the wall coffee place next to the nandos on H Street. They have good cake and coffee
Great coffee! It’s small but is a fantastic neighborhood coffee shop!
Went to go meet some friends to chat. after my friends purchased their coffee I attempted to purchase an apple juice but he gave me a hard time when I asked him on the price and if he could I purchase it, when at the register he tells me you will have to spend more than just this $5 apple juice if you and your friends choose to stay here and chat/work. After he basically denied me service I went to go sit back with my friends and he followed me to my table to tell me to leave or buy the apple juice which I was trying to in the beginning. Its just very upsetting for me to try to support small businesses and being born and raised in DC my whole life and just dealing with the changes with it & I feel offended by the fact $5 for an apple juice that retails for $2 isnt enough to sit in a coffee shop when their are people there just sitting on their laptops with a single coffee that cost $3.75.Would say if you choose to go please watch out the old genetlman there as he seems to pick & choose who he likes or maybe just being a young minority in DC he just thinks im up to no good.
The coffee here is excellent and theres a multitude of plugs if you are here to work on your computer. Has just the right amount of noise.
They have one of the best Ethiopian coffee. ☕
