Modular 8 was a wonderful place to spend an afternoon and evening—even for myself, who had little to no experience with modular synthesis. One of the owners, Philip, was great to talk to and ask questions to and he got me started in messing around with some gear. Having fun and making music & noise seemed to be the takeaway—and this was a perfect, welcoming environment to do so. Even if you have no idea what you’re doing (just like me!)—come in, and try it out! It was awesome.

Had a great experience visiting here the first time! An employee showed me how to setup a basic patch on the modular synth and explained a lot of concepts. Wish all stores had friendly employees like this!

As an extreme novice, I walked in, met Phillip and for an hour had the opportunity to learn about what goes in to shaping sound. This place is full of extremely intimidating equipment for a rookie. But the experience and service made it accessible and exciting. I never once felt like he was trying to sell me. Instead it felt like he was extremely passionate about the music and helping people understand the process of doing that with the equipment he had on hand. Super appreciated!!!

Best place to buy synths in Portland. period. Steve is a great guy and will actually take the time to explain things to you and he carries the most musical, best sounding stuff around. A gem on the west-coast.They have great live shows too!

Could not have had a better experience as a customer than I had at Modular 8! I came in to the store looking to purchase a pair of Focal Alpha 50s, and without hesitation they set up a listening session for me and told me to take all the time I needed.After I decided 30+ minutes of subjecting them to my music taste was enough torture... I told them I’d take the pair! And without me even bringing up price, they went ahead and offered me a better deal than the big online retailers AND threw in an extended factory warranty for free!!!Excellent experience all in all; I can highly recommend Modular 8 to every one!
