These guys dont know Oregon law as it applies to being a car dealer. Oregon has laws that favor the consumer and requires car dealers to guarantee that every car on their lot is safe and driveable, unless they state known problems or mechanical issues. My daughter bought a car with less than 100K miles from them. The engine light was not on, which they pointed out several times, and there were no indications that there were problems inside the engine. The salesman told me that he and his daughter had driven the car for 6-8 weeks and there were no problems with it. Even so, it was sold as is.The day after my daughter bought it and drove it home, the engine light came on, indicating there was a malfunction with the thermostat. She took it to a mechanic, and found that someone had removed the valve from it so it was not functioning at all, (coolant was freely circulating throughout the engine). How was it that the engine light came on the day after she drove it off the lot and never during the 6-8 weeks the salesman drove it?The mechanic installed a new thermostat and within a few days, the engine started overheating - depending on how far she drove. It finally completely overheated one day as she was driving on the freeway from Eugene. It stalled along side the road so she had it towed to the mechanic. When the mechanic removed the head, he found long term corrosion and pitting in the cylinders that was due to coolant getting inside the cylinders. Installing a new-used engine was a cheaper and better way to fix it - so I went to the dealer, told them what had happened, what the mechanic said, and quoted Oregon law stating that they cannot reset the engine light to trick consumers into believing there are no problems with an engine. The owner told me, I buy cars as is and I sell them as is. I cannot help you. I contacted a lawyer who specializes in shady car dealers, showed him pictures of the engine, told him the story and he found that they were in violation of 3 Oregon laws each with a $25,000 fine attached. After some back and forth between the 2 lawyers, we settled out of court for all of our expenses including a new-used engine install, all previous work done and our legal expenses. I hope these guys start selling legitimate cars and understand Oregon law now. Contact H&W Hanson law firm if you have any bad car deals!
