QAS has given me great service, and great advice for my Sprinter van.When Mercedes Reno just reset the computer and told me nothing was wrong, Quality Automotive took the time to figure out that my emissions were going weird, and that CA Mercedes dealers are required fix that under CA emissions laws. So I took my van to a CA dealership and got the emissions system changed out on Mercedes dime ($5k savings)They do great work, treat my van well. Im happy to support a local business instead of driving down to Reno.

I had problems finding a servicing shop close to me in Carnelian Bay that could see me quickly so ventured further afield to Truckee. Compared to others (many have still not returned my call) they were responsive and professional. Their fees were fair - not super low or high - but they were very thorough and clearly want a repeat-customer relationship. They clearly know their stuff, important when you hand over complex, expensive machinery that you critically depend upon. If you are looking for an alternative to the dealer where you purchased your car, I would say that they are an excellent alternative providing a similar or better level of service. 5 stars!

Would not recommend this place for any automotive work, primarily based on lack of thoroughness of work, inability to service specific requests, and poor customer service.Context: Was working on-site in Truckee for the month from out of town, and had just prior replaced the brake lines in the rear of my truck. While in Truckee, noticed that one of the new lines had been leaking, and also any attempts to bleed the brakes resulted in endless air bubbles being drawn out, despite topping off the master cylinder a few times over. Since I was away from home and tools, I figured a shop in town could make quick work of it.I reached out to QAS to see if they would be willing to SPECIFICALLY replace the specific hard brakeline with a replacement (that I was able to provide) and bleed the brakes. They agreed, and stated that a standard inspection was mandatory to include/minimum cost included as well. I agreed, and brought it in at the beginning of the day, dropped the keys off and they stated that they didn’t need any additional info (despite myself offering to indicate the specific failure fitting to the receptionist)Later that day, that’s when the issues began:- First, the shop front-office called to indicate they didn’t see any issues with the brakes “since the master cylinder was full”. I told them it was because I had just filled it, and that the issue was a slow leak at the specific fitting resulting in inability to effectively bleed the brakes (as previously stated). This indicated to me that they completely disregarded the info provided/service intent. The front desk said that they’d relay info to the tech and get back to me.- Afterwards, the front-desk then called saying that they couldn’t see any leaks in the brake lines, and wasn’t sure which brake line I was referring to. Beginning to get annoyed, I told them that I wasn’t needing a system diagnostic, but specifically just needed them to replace the brakeline I had provided and bleed the system. I was then put on the phone with the tech, wherein I had to explain the whole request A THIRD TIME, and his response was “Well, if that’s all that was needed, why don’t you just do it yourself?” -- I was flabbergasted. I let them know that will be picking up the vehicle immediately and no longer required their services.-THEN ONTOP OF ALL THAT, upon arrival to get my truck, the joke of a standard diagnostic/“ABC point inspection” that they required to be charged as a part of service was filled with incorrect info, including gems such as:“Cabin filter needs replacing” -- the vehicle does not have a cabin filter, and was not equipped with one from the factory.“Upper steering balljoints need replacing” -- Took to a manufacturer service center for second opinion, they said the balljoints were well within spec and fine.Overall, wouldn’t recommend and clearly are just attempting to churn through as many transient customers needing blinker fluid as possible.

My truck broke down while in town the day before I was supposed to leave and drive it 6 hours home. They hooked it up to the computer to quickly diagnose that one of my cylinders was misfiring, but had already let me know they were completely full and couldnt fit me in for a week. Being too risky to drive it to a bigger town and with no other shops having availability, I was in a bad spot.One of the mechanics happened to overhear our conversation at the front desk and informed us that he was waiting on a part that was supposed to come in but was late. He said he could look at it right away. Through a combination of good luck and QASs genuine concern for their customers, I was back on the road that same day. My trip home was uneventful and I definitely stress tested their work driving through the mountains. They are by far the best mechanic shop Ive ever dealt with and arguably the best customer service experience Ive ever had. I wish I lived closer to have QAS service all of my vehicles.

My car needed a smog test. Scheduling was easy -- I selected a date/time online; Quality Automotive emailed me to confirm the appointment. Arrived for appointment, check-in process was quick and safe (fresh pens to sign paperwork, hand sanitizer). Super friendly staff. Car was done in 20 minutes. Would highly recommend coming here.

Very professional on the phone beforehand and on site when I got there, had already printed copies of the inspection forms I sent them ready to go. Nice waiting area for short jobs. A little pricey but good service and people doesnt cost nothing.

I normally do not write bad reviews, but I will suggest that anyone who uses this shop get a second opinion BEFORE you allow them to do anything and if they do anything to your car by ALL means take it to another mechanic to make sure they did what they SAID they did and billed you for. I am in the process of having an investigation done on work that I was told was done, but apparently wasnt and I also found out I was charged over 3 times what I should have been charged if the work that they SAID they did was actually done. I feel like I got ripped off and I have been told by other mechanics that looked at the job they did that I got RIPPED off. Im considering going to the Attorney General and filing a complaint so this doesnt happen to other people. Judging from other reviews I see on here. Im not the first person who feels they were overcharged and or taken advantage of. Ill leave the investigation to the proper authorities. In the meantime. Caveat Emptor.

These guys are wonderful! I woke up one morning and my car was making a horrific sound. I drove it straight in to Quality Automotive (without calling first because it was so early) and their team was MORE than accommodating. They slotted me in to have the car looked at, and gave me a loaner car to drive home with so that I could be on time for a conference call. We have used Quality Automotive for years, but this one occurrence, and their extra special attention to my needs, sealed the deal that we are customers for life!

Im not the type to write a review, and Id like to start out by saying their customer service was super respectful and made an attempt to explain a solution to customer concerns.However, Quality Automotive Servicing VASTLY over charges, specifically speaking to their parts mark up. I was pretty bummed out as some long term locals recommended this shop as they were friends with the owners. Its typical for a shop to run a margin on parts (difference between their wholesale and retail pricing) - but to charge another margin (double I might add) on top of that, is ludicrous; even for the most expensive cities. After calling the Porsche dealer directly to see what the retail rate was on parts, I was told a bunch of lies about how their pricing matched was higher than a retail rate (the price that ANYONE can walk into a shop and not receive a wholesale discount) and received a run-around on how businesses have to set certain prices to be profitable. I even saw the Porsche parts department receipt on my invoice to confirm what I was quoted on the phone by the Porsche parts advisor.Make sure to shop around before your car is taken here, other shops in the area will not double mark up their parts. Check out Reno Rennsport if youre servicing a Porsche. Much more informed and doesnt double mark up their parts rate.

Oil change, yep thats all. Bummer experience - To many prompts when calling in, 4 times, x twice then press #1, press #2, press #3, press #4 until I got ahold of a person. Then not realizing I was on the line, staff poked fun at the person on the phone me.Calls, text and too many robots, it was a Suddenlink experience. I never received a call about the engine light on either, the fix only the paperwork. I felt like a number! All the best, wont be back.

I broke down in Truckee and took my van to the place with the highest yelp reviews. This is sometimes a mistake, always read the bad ones. These guys took 2 weeks to replace my water pump, forgot to fill the engine oil which they originally said they would do, and probably charged 30% - 40% higher than my SF mechanic. The people on the phone are friendly until you point out an issue and have paid already. Take a gamble elsewhere if its a Sunday and you cant get quotes from different shops.

My car blew up on the 80. Asked my mechanic in the Bay Area to recommend a mechanic in Truckee that was competent to work on my German car. He recommended Quality Automotive. Couldn’t be more pleased. Professional electronic diagnosis, helpful knowledgeable staff and organized after-hours pick-up. Wish QA was in the Bay Area! Thank you for putting my car back together!

I had a great experience with these guys! Cameron in the service department was super helpful with my concerns about getting my car to pass smog. Luckily it did end up passing but the whole experience from scheduling to drop off to wait time etc was smooth and friendly! Thank you!

All good. told me it would take 30 minutes and actually finished under that. Cost was $70.00, Although have not smogged a vehicle in a long time so have no idea if cost was good or bad. I needed it done and was out of town so Im happy.

I have been a customer of quality automotive since they were located behind Burger King in Truckee. I have brought all of my vehicles to them for smog checks. I figured I would give them a shot at fleet maintenance for the business I work for.The first truck I brought them had a leaking transmission line and the AC was not working. Three days and $1100 later they patched the transmission line and said the air conditioning is incredibly cold. The air conditioner still does not stay cold. Granted now I know my tire pressure and my power steering fluid level but I can check all that stuff and thats not what I brought it there for.They made a lot of extra money inspecting things that I didnt need inspected. I am a mechanic myself for the company that I work for and I only brought them this vehicle because I did not have time to replace the transmission line myself. It was already diagnosed I knew exactly what was wrong with it.I guess bottom line Im still looking for a mechanic thats not going to charge me for a full inspection to check the tire pressure, coolant level, power steering fluid level, etc when I bring something to them for a specific issue. These guys charge extra for an inspection I didnt know I was getting and my air conditioner still doesnt work right.

We have a 10 year old Volvo that needed servicing. Quality Automotive was able to get the car in as it fit our schedule. We even had a courtesy car! The staff were helpful and friendly and the car received great service at a pretty reasonable price! We will definitely be returning to Quality Automotive for our next scheduled service.

I had a great experience here (shout out to Gary and Jamie)! Gary kept me updated regularly on the progress and was super patient and thorough when answering all my questions, and Jamie was kind enough to give me a ride to the shop to pick up my Honda CR-V. They also have a dividend system that you can use towards future spending which is pretty awesome.

Let me start off by saying the staff is extremely friendly and I do believe this to be a competent mechanic shop.With that being said I unfortunately did not have a great experience. I blew a brake line going through donnor pass and got towed back to them to get it fixed the next day and it appeared they did a good job but a few states away in Cheyenne Wyoming the brake line blew again the repair cost me roughly $500 and in Cheyenne I found someone to fix it for $80 and over a month and a half later I’m still good.

Always honest, always competent, always go the extra mile. Also just really nice people.

Classic chop shop. They wont bother to fix your vehicle. Will charge an arm and a leg for a bandaid destined to fail so they can do all over again down the road. Dont waste your money here.

Just dropped by for a smog check, quick, easy, no issues. Everyone was super friendly, careful to the max regarding Covid19 procedures, and everyone was trying to be as lighthearted as possible during a tough time.

Great experience, very personable staff. I was told my smog test would be finished within an hour and we were finished in exactly that time. I really appreciated how they introduced themselves when I got there, and made me feel very comfortable and welcomed. Not to mention they mechanics taste in music made my stay even more enjoyable. Wanda the Honda was very happy with her stay there :)

We had a very good experience at Quality Auto. Our Honda Odyssey had brakes that were vibrating strongly and they replaced all rotors and pads at about the expected price. The parts came in a day later than wed hoped, but they set our expectations properly with good communication. I especially appreciated being able to text them and get a quick response. We have spotty reception at the cabin were staying at, and were visiting from out of town, so that prompt service and communication were key. It was also helpful to be able to trust the reviews. Thanks!

I usually dread going in to get my car serviced, but this was the most pleasant experience Ive had! They did an oil Change and thoroughly inspected my car and gave me honest and complete feedback. My car was in good shape even though I just drove it across the country. If youre in the area, and need anything for your car, definitely visit these guys!

If you ever are stranded due to car trouble go to them. They were very helpful and honest. They were proactive in providing status and explained everything they were doing or when something was not necessary. They delivered on their commitment. Quality, honesty, friendly, customer oriented, reasonable are the words that describe them. If ever stranded again we would only go to them.

This place is the best of the best of the best. They always take great care of my car, whether I do a drop in for an oil change, or I schedule a service, they always are so time efficient! I needed a new spark plug, Gary said could be end of day before my car was done, and they ended up squeezing that in and finishing up two hours earlier than they had prepared me for. Excellent friendly staff, very clean, attractive and cozy waiting lounge. I had to drive from reno to get a california smog for this situation and they took great care of me. Business is walking distance from lovely coffee shops and restaurants if you have time to kill while waiting for a repair.

Went to this shop after getting a list of “required and immediate” repairs from dealer and after a recommendation from a local. BEST SHOP EVER! No BS. Explained EVERYTHING clearly and concisely, talked to me as an equal and answered ALL my questions fully! Did not try to sell me on extras that I did not need! STRAIGHT UP HONEST! Made appointment and arrangements for future service if necessary. After pickup of repaired auto, informed me that one of the dealers “dire warning” was BS! Honest and informative. From now on, will take my vehicles to this shop ONLY!!! 👍👍👍👍👍

Best attention Ive ever received for service I couldnt use. Diesel Truck pulling a loaded U-Haul trailer overheated and blew the radiator on Sunday when all sutomotive shops are closed. Quality Automotive and Smog was highly rated, so I had my truck and trailer delivered there, and this is an example of why Quality is so highly rated: I spoke with the owner Monday morning who said unfortunately Quality was booked for the week, but recommended his top competitor, took the time to check my radiator and assess that the truck could be slowly driven there, then volunteered to tow my trailer to the new shop. The crew at Quality Automotive & Smog is fast, friendly, and very efficient. The no-frills approach ensured every time I take my car to be serviced, I know exactly what needs to be replaced, the lifespan of soon-to-be-replaced parts, and how everything else is working. Depending on the type of work, the pricing is comparable or slightly better in some cases than heading down the hill to shops in Reno.

Great experience! My car was doing weird things and not starting. They got us in right away and even let me borrow a car so I could pick up my husband at the Reno Airport. Totally saved me!! Everyone was so helpful and really took the time to explain what was going on with my car. We have always had great service when weve brought our cars in for regular service appointments, but this was our first crisis appointment. Good to know we have such a great and trustworthy place in Truckee!
