Been shopping here since i was a little kid. Now i live in Ashland. Ordered some new stylus… quick shipping and in perfect condition. Great record store!!!
Great store with an incredibly helpful staff. Fair prices too!
I called to ask if they had a record, to give them my business, the dude I was talking to seemed aggravated that I was asking about records and said We do have a bunch of new DJ equipment though! As if it was a problem that I wanted to buy a record from them. How about dont sell records then?
As a long time customer. I would not shop anywere elsewhere!!!! Every salesman is a pro dj working in the industry.
Small record selection but seemed to have quite a bit of sound equipment. Staff friendly and helpful
This place is a PDX institution. Very knowledgable, friendly, and helpful staff here. Theyre always down to listen, explain, and assist through a project. I will often research a product online first, and then go to Platinum for the expert advice and support. Cool records too and good prices. Shop local!
If you know what you want, or if you are completely new, just try to stop these guys from talking your ear off. Great for DJ/Sampling.
Fantastic experience buying some DJ headphones (locally!!). Very friendly staff and even though Im absolutely a rookie/casual basement DJ they treated me as if I was the next DJ at EDC. Will recommend and return for any future DJ equipment needs.
Great selection. The staff was extremely helpful. Will definitely return for records and music production gear.
Always love coming here! Great selections, prices and staff!!!
I am an old school DJ from the 80s & 90s playing Hip Hop/Rap & Dance/House music in clubs & on the radio back home in Burlington, Vermont. I am now 49 years old & have recently got back into spinning. I stumbled across Platinum Records selling 12 vinyl records by the bulk-lot. Scott pulled some very nice LL Cool J, RUN-DMC, Bobby Brown, Al B. Sure & BBD as well as many more 80s & 90s Hip Hop/Rap, R&B artists from those years. He sent me 50 vinyl records that I bought. & he did not dissapoint!. I will be ordering more Lots or vinyl from them often. Thanks Scott & Staff. Keep spinnin.Shayne Newton
Pretty poor experience with this retailer. Communication is definitely not a strong suit for this sales team. After several phone calls and a week of unresponded to emails asking to place an order I would not recommend their services at all.
This was great. A lot of old & new music. A lot of albums were i believe used during turn table days/bars/ disvo clubsMist albums have 1-2 songs on them. They had a Groupon for $20 for $40 of music. Friendly staff. Guy threw domd extra i grabbed at last minute. They also have 45s and whole albums/new music.
Great liitle spot hidden with some gems to find.
Amazing shop. Been going here since 2011. Taken the DJ classes and finished it, now in 2019 retaking it for refresher. Great deals on equipment and vinyl. They make you feel like family here. Tony, scott and all the rest. 10/10 best shop around.
Best record selection and really dope merch
I bought my first set of turntables from Platinum Records, when I was ONLY 27 years old. I wanted them so badly, I had to talk Scott into letting me put them on layaway, which I am eternally grateful to him that he did.Technics were around 1,500 dollars for the pair back then. I didnt have a lot of prior knowledge of exactly how turntables worked. Just knew I needed them to do what I wanted to be able to do!! I was really passionate about DJing and mixing vinyl. Finally I got them and I was able to become one of the top DJs in Seattle Some say the first, or pioneering female DJ.I started Seattle DJ Academy in 2014, with the mission of enriching, empowering and inspiring up and coming DJs to become who they are supposed to be.I have received overwhelming interest in the Academy, and created a new demand in the market place for the future of DJing.Stay Hungry Stay Foolish - Steve JobsThank you Platinum Records for giving me my first BIG opportunity!Sincerely,EvaAttached are a few highlights from nights Ive DJd locally over the years.
Great place to buy DJ gear and records. The Thing is very helpful when it comes to the funk selection. DJ Mafia knows his lights and gear. Scott is super nice and dreamy. Frankie fixes your stuff fast.
The C.S.R. was very helpful.
I think the staff could work on being a bit kinder. Good selection of gear and whatnot. Just felt like I was a burden for being there.
Terrible place to buy records. All the desirable artist LPs have sold out, and anything affordable is totally scratched. Avoid, there are much better record stores even downtown. May be a good place to buy DJ equipment, but definitely not a place for picking up Records or 45s.
Guy at the counter blew me off entirely, guess I didn’t fit the scene or something. I won’t waste my money here.
Has everything a different needs music equipment and a great selection of lights
Great Sale going on right now on tons of vinyl. Ive been doing business with these guys since around 1994 and they always treat me good. They have quite a selection of gear now too so you can get everything there.
Though some records are not always in stock, platinum records has a huuuuge selection, from Snoop dog to Janis Joplin, as well as nice record players and any equipment you may need.
Very nice store. Love the atmosphere and music playing. Nice used record section.
Friendly staff, strong inventory knowledge, nice selection and very reasonable prices. They offer a 3-day defect policy so be sure to test your gear right away.
Came here to purchase fee less hard tickets to a concert. The line was very well managed for over 100 people and they kept the line moving. Not sure about actual store experience but these guys did very well for limited hard ticket sales that day.
Friendly staff and very informative. Turns out Ive been using the word analog wrong for the longest.
Really cool vibes should play more kinds of music though change the vibes
Its local, so i try to do business there. They can have a put out attitude but it is the way people are at trade businesses. (being the DJ trade) you go to a hardcore welder shop they have an attitude if you dont look like a welder. Well here if you are a working DJ they call you by name. They will meet or beet Guitar Center as well.
For a record store, its pretty limited in record genres.
Very polite, helpful, and professional. Knew what they were talking about, and werent afraid to let us know when they didnt have something we were looking for.
Platinum is a one stop shop that is all things DJ. There is DJ equipment, new and used. DJ lessons for all experience levels. Repairs to your equipment. Records, new and used, from all musical genres. Scott, Tony and Jeff are experienced DJs that are more than willing to share their wealth of knowledge with you. Platinum is a sanctuary for DJs.
Always get what I need, great customer service and great deals, ask for SCOTT, hell take care of you!!!
They did t give me and my buddy the right equipment for his weeding he made a $800 deposit for a good soundsystem and they didnt even supply the correct cords to play music as well gave us 0 instructions on how to use the equipment will never use them again
Im a professional DJ that lives far from PDX & I still stop in & shop at Platinum records. Been shopping here for 20 years now.
Friendly staff and good inventory, this wont be my last visit.
Great Guys, Great Service!!! When i went in i didnt even buy anything but what they did for me was very helpful with there staffs knowledge and knowhow, i was helped with an item that i was looking to price for eBay, not only did they take a good look at the item for me but also helped me to understand what i had and how much to price it, id go back anytime, next time i need anything else that there store has to offer, thanks Guys!!!
They have everything from records, recording equipment, dj and sound equipment, to lighting equipment. If youre into music, sound production and or music in general I highly suggest checking them out.
Great staff. Friendly and honest. Great experience!
Not a great selection of music, guy behind the desk wasnt very helpful, definitely better options in the Portland area.
I have been going here since I’ve been a kid. I love this place.
Great selection of records and equipment knowledgeable staff.
While most of it is used and older music, they have a huge selection of vinyl from a wide variety of genres. Theyve given me good deals on bundles and the staff is very knowledgeable.
The best in lights and sound in the Portland Oregon area
The only brick and mortar shop for DJ’s is still alive in Portland! I love this place, the staff is very knowledgable and able to figure out the most difficult of audio setups.
My Favorite DJ Gear Store for twenty five years.
Record selection is okay at best. Customer service aint that great either. People who work here are more about hardware and dont know too much about the records. I also dislike having to hand over my ID just to preview some records. DISLIKE.
Great place for records and DJs!
I worship this place.
This place is absolutely great for the EDM vinyl-lover, both for the at-home hobbyist or big-heads producing or guys mixin at the clubs. Even though it seems deceptively small, you should be sure to set aside a couple of hours before you start digging here. AND I DO MEAN DIGGING. Theres no computer terminal, no easy-search for where everything is and what they have in stock. Instead come prepared, put in your research, figure out what labels you like, and go from there; you might not find the specific tracks you were looking for, but I definitely found a lot of my favorite artists, and surprised with a few familiar tunes [and a familiar old hometown friend who apparently has produced something since Ive been gone!!] I had a blast with the staff, totally down to earth, and all of them bringing in their own flav to the place. Dont be shy, chat with them, tell them what you bring to the scene, what your music selection is like, and theyll at least point you in the right direction; since their layout is a little difficult to navigate, but with their recent re-organization along with just time spent there, youll figure it out quick. Also, theres a bunch of great DJ equipment here, not sure on their pricing though, didnt spent that much time in that department, but they definitely have a large selection of doo-dads.
Best DJ store and school on the West Coast!
Great selection of records, lighting and equipment!
A Portland audio & lighting gear staple for 30 years. Tell old man Jeff, James E says hello....
Very DJ friendly shop! Lots of equipment and vinyl!
This is the spot for dj gear and pro audio gear. Where else can you find new and used sound gear on a budget!
Got my money back
Great atmosphere.
Place it a dj paradise
Screamin deals!
