The van was fine.When I pick up the van (10/27/21) I was handed the keys and no one check the status of the van.When I returned the van( 10/28/21) I was told to leave the keys in the van and leave.an hour later I received an email with the bill for an extra 150 $ charge for damages.I called and asked what was the charge for.the clerk on the phone told me Oh well, we found a scratch on the bumperI did not hit anything, and also how can he know since nobody checked the van before handing me the keys.he responded Well it is there and you better be happy it didnt cost you moreHe refused to give me his name.I will never go to that place again and will make sure to spread the word.
I should have taken these reviews seriously. They will find anything to charge you. If you have no choice take pictures of everything. Take pictures of the clock on the truck with your phone showing the date and time as well and that you are there. Take pictures of EVERYTHING.
Had the pleasure of working with Luis at the Salem location and he is a true professional. Good customer service is hard to find now a days and he made the process seamless. Really appreciate the assistance.
They are rude. I went there on September 9th 2021 to buy a box. I now we are in a pandemic. I live in Peabody and in Peabody they don’t ask for mask to get into a store. I just come here because was the store close to my house. We had one mask and we was 2. My husband was inside and I was outside talking to him. The guy said to close the door because the Ac. I agree with him. But he was rude. I don’t know why he was so rude.
Amazing staff! Anthony came in on his day off to install a last minute hitch no other location could help with. Jamie made dropping my car off in the morning so easy I still got to work on time despite the detour. Raul was there to close out the transaction and answer my questions and make me laugh after what was a long day! My move would be delayed if it werent for these guys and Im so grateful!!! ❤
Returned vehicle after hours. I was charged for 4 gallons of gas when I returned it exactly the way I received it. I drove a total of 17 miles in the pickup. I put in 2 gallons right before dropping it off. That would mean that I supposedly used 6 gallons of gas to drive 17 miles! How realistic is that?! I took a picture of gauge when I dropped off. Tried many times to call them. They refuse to answer the phone. I emailed them and provided the picture. No response. Terrible customer service!!! I will never rent from them again. BEWARE!!!
Amazing staff again! There’s a young man stuck there on his own on a busy Sunday morning and he was hustling all over the place helping everyone with everything. He was on top of every detail and made sure everyone was helped as fast possible.
I can’t stress enough how outstanding the customer service I received from Louie was. I moved to Marblehead last Sunday and he absolutely saved my day and did all he could to help me, Louie is a great employee who does whatever he can do help the customer and he truly made my moving day a flawless experience, I appreciate him greatly!

I rented a Uhaul 15 truck. Soon after driving and entering the highway I realized the mirror on the passenger side has flipped around. It was extremely difficult and scary to maneuver the truck to come to a stop off the highway not seeing what vehicle is behind you. I called roadside assistance who came fairly quickly and tied the mirror with a string!! He said he didnt have the right wrench to fix the mirror. When I returned the truck back to the store on the same day (even though I had the U-haul rented until the next day) and complained about this issue the person at the desk said that I can be compensated for the trouble caused but he couldnt do it without the manager. The next day when I checked, the manager has not only charged me for additional miles for gas, he has also charged me for after hour drop off and incomplete fuel refill. I have pictures as proof to show that I did not drive the miles I was charged for and that I indeed filled the gas to the same level as I had received the truck. When asked about the compensation, his response was nothing happened to you, so why should we compensate? And when I told him it was your own store personal who said to me that I could be compensated his response was that, I should ask the other employee since he (the manager) didnt promise anything.I have several issues with this rental. Firstly providing me with a faulty truck, secondly charging me for after-hours, when I returned the truck well ahead of my time, the extra miles that I did not drive, and the attitude of the manager. I have emailed u-haul customer service with my grievance as well. Lets see if they can fix this issue or at least owe me the apology I deserve.
Please do not use U-Haul. If you absolutely have to, for the love of god go to a different location. I had 3 absolutely awful experiences here from start to finish, but this one needs to be shared. I was guaranteed a truck in Salem and they tried to give me a truck in Billerica instead. I settled for a smaller truck in Salem that I would have to drive round trip (3 hours) back to Salem. When we show up for our guaranteed truck and waited 20 minutes to talk to the 1 guy working on Saturday, the guy tells us yeah they don’t have it. No apology, extremely rude the entire time. Couldn’t care less about the line of customers behind me. He sits there on hold for awhile and then sends us 20 minutes across town to Danvers. An hour and a half after our promised pick up time, we finally get a truck in Danvers. However when we go to return the truck that night, it tells us we are supposed to return it to the Beverly location. Not one single time was that mentioned to us. The contract we signed specifically says to return it to Danvers. It wouldn’t let us do the check in in Danvers so we had to drive it back home again. Tried calling during business hours the next day. 30+ minute hold times at every location. And to top it all off, I was charged over $200 for this terrible experience when I was guaranteed this truck for $179. Cancelling all my business with U-Haul and recommending my friends and family to do the same.
Rented a truck days in advance, waited in a 15 minute line with one employee working to be told they don’t have my truck I rented. Moving will very easy without a truck thanks uhaul!
One person on with a line out the door, no bueno! Communicate with the customers, apologize about the wait and let them know your working as fast as you can. Even the slightest communication acknowledging customers agonizing wait times makes a difference.
I rented a pick up truck to move a car trailer, when I got home the trailer hitch had a lock on it so you could not swap the ball out. Had to drive all the way back to Salem,for a key which should have been on the keychain with the truck. Anthony the employee was very condescending and rude over the phone. Just a really bad experience!!!
Had two very pleasant successive rentals at this location, although the suspension on the first truck was shot and it had a blinker out. After returning the second truck (which had the wrong amount of fuel in it when I signed it out) and letting the attendant know that I was fine with paying the cost of replacement fuel (which I had done the first time with no issue), I received a call from the manager. He claimed that since I had returned the truck with the fuel below a certain threshold that there was an ADDITIONAL $30 charge which had not been mentioned to me at any time during my return. No solutions were offered, and his manner was flippant and unprofessional. When I mentioned that I would not be utilizing their services again, he replied “Ok.” LAUGHABLE customer service. I just moved to the area and rent trucks for work regularly; I will now be happily taking all my business to another U-Haul dealer and warning my business partners away from this location. It’s a shame, because the two attendants with whom I interacted were friendly and helpful.
Have rented cargo Vans from here for 3 years now and have had a good experience. The staff here are helpful but can be a bit rude during busy hours. They are usually stocked with everything you might need but to be safe, always call ahead to make sure they have it and book your vehicle ahead of time on their website.
Over worked staff not organized confusing. Dont want to rent storage there at all. Truck rental went well, once your turn comes has been good convenient location. They need help though
Experienced the worst level of customer service ever at this location. After they had given my reservation to someone else the day before I was scheduled to rent a truck (still waiting on an explanation as to why this happened) I called the call center to explain this situation and re-book. I confirmed over the phone the hours of my new reservation, and arrived the next day to pick up the car. The Manager claimed he had no knowledge of my issue, no knowledge of the first reservation (and who used it to rent the previous day) and told me my reservation for that day was actually for the afternoon. After explaining the situation several times and also providing both reservation numbers several times, the manager was unfriendly, not empathetic and unwilling to help. Try using a rental from Danvers Ford or any alternative to avoid dealing with these crooks.
I feel bad for the employees here - always understaffed, clearly poor management. Expect to wait no matter what youre there for. We placed an online order for boxes and tried to chat through their website to confirm when our order would be ready - no response at all. Showed up at the designated pick up time and nothing was ready - some of the boxes we ordered were not in stock and yet there was NO feedback that our order couldnt be completed or wouldnt be ready by the time we had selected. The people at the desk are trying to get everything done but theres almost always only one person working and struggling. Whoever runs this store ought to step up.

Guy at shop is extremely rude
They made us wait 12 hours for a hitch even though we had a 7 am reservation made weeks prior and first there. It shouldnt have taken more than a few hours at the most,but they kept my husband waiting all day then offered no consolation, no discount or anything. He ended up paying full price when they took up our time! We needed to be up in NH later that day so my son could say goodbye to his grandparents before we moved but they took too long. If I had known I wouldnt have taken the day off work. I dont reccomend this place because its obviously on their time, their terms.Thanks a lot.
Nice, friendly, quick & efficient! I originally reserved a moving truck at the Danvers location. They were super rude, kept me waiting & over all horrible customer service. So I left & went to this Salem location. What a difference! It was like night & day. Save yourself the trouble & just go directly to Salem location. They understand how to do customer service.
I gave the Salem office a call just a couple of hours before I needed the Van with my fingers crossed hoping they had one available with such short notice. The lot was well stocked with all the various truck sizes from what I could see. My interaction with the man behind the desk was pleasant and he explained all the pertinent rules and regulations in a couple of minutes no more. All of the staff there were exceptionally courteous. The Van we rented was brand new with less than 4,000 miles on it, it was clean as a whistle with ice cold air conditioning which made our trip comfortable especially today being in the middle of a heat wave. So I Will close with the following remark: My experience with Salem U-Haul went smoother than any of the other Truck Rental Companies Ive used in the past and Yes I would recommend You Give them a Call the next time Your in the business of moving.July 8,2013

By far the worst rental experience I have ever had to tolerate during a crunch time move. From start to finish their customer service is a disgrace. I advise to never rent from this location!!!
Made a reservation for a truck. Got a confirmation number, and then get a call 90 minutes later saying theres no available trucks within 30 miles
The place is usually understaffed. One of the employees that was there just for the day seemed upset that he had to come from another city to help out. I had to wait a long time just to buy supplies. The parking lot is extremely tough to figure out. After a few minutes waiting, their regular employee was very helpful.
Place is great.. but is very short staffed .. only 1 guy working and the place is packed with customers waiting for a long time to rent or drop off.. please hire more people.
Staff could not care less. Rented an auto transport carrier for my father to transport a car to Maine. I called twice to confirm rental was ready (was assured it was — but I didn’t realize I was talking to a call center nowhere near Salem). Store employee told us at pick-up that the one they had was broken and we’d have to call scheduling to figure it out. He could not have cared less about helping us find one or the fact that my father had driven five hours to Massachusetts for this particular purpose and now we have no way to get the car to Maine. When I called customer service, I was connected to various dead ends and dropped calls. Based on this experience, U-Haul is the worst company I’ve ever dealt with. There are no other options of places to rent from and they could care less about helping.
I had a great experience at this location. The employees were very helpful an kind. Always greeting me when i walked in. Keeping in contact with me. I didnt return the truck the first day because things took longer so i needed it 1 more day. They called me first thing in the morning to ask if i wanted to have it for the day again. Then i returned it when they were closed so i just parked it an put keys in box. I had forgot to go back the next day to get my deposit squared away. Again being a customer friendly place they called me to tell me i was owed some money. It was only 16$ an change but still. When i went to pick up my money they were still so friendly an helpful. Even tho they were super busy they still said hello welcome well b right with u. They literally greeted everyone i saw walking in or out. Its a good feeling when customer service is a priority. I felt welcomed. I didnt have such great experience at the lynn location which is how i ended up in salem. So if ur looking for a helpful pleasant moving experience this uhual location is one of the best in my experiences.

They are pretty on top of things. The trucks are always ready quick never a problem with over charges and they will ammend a bill if they make a mistake.
The worst, most unorganized business Ive ever dealt with! Always understaffed. You will wait forever! Dont ever try to have your propane tank filled there.
