I went to to small family practice my whole life until he retired so I was unsure about going to a chain BUT they were great! The staff were super nice and knowledgeable I have no reservations about using them as my permanent eye doctor.
Staff was helpful and polite. Dr was fast but efficient. I didnt feel rushed when making ny frame decisions. Many frames and brands to xhoose from. With my insurance I was $19 out of pocket. Ive already talked my husband into going this week. Nice experience!
Check in was easy. While I waited for my appointment I was able to look at frames and make my selection. They had a lot to choose from. The person who helped me with my frames was very friendly and knowledgeable. Over all a very good experience and I would go back. My frames and sunglasses will be in about two weeks because they had to order but they said it’s usually quicker.
Conveniently located and plenty of parking spaces. The frame selection is pretty diverse, normally it takes me hours to pick out a frame I found two that spoke to me ;)I am beyond pleased with the customer service and attentiveness of the employees at this location. You are actually acknowledged as soon as you walk inThe Dr. Himself is professional knowledgeable open and kind a serious must for me if I am going to continue giving an establishment business. He even suggested I get a cheaper second pair but have a closer prescription for work specifically. Overall it did not feel transactionary which is always nice to find. These days communication for certain businesses are lacking, so thank you ! I am so glad I found a reputable place to recommend to my family and friends as well.

I am not exaggerating this either but for me it was wonderful.!!! an experienced like Ive never had before in a eye doctors office the hours of operation are spectacular stays open plenty late and opens early the sheer selection of really nice frames for men and women eyewear is outta this world everyone was more than polite and thoroughly explained how everything worked the service was really prompt and quick even when I had to move my appointment around twice they never hesitated to get me in the very next day it was no problem the doctor himself did a wonderful job on my eye exam both contact and glasses in the contact exam was even more of an experience than I expected because he brought both of my links down to the same prescription now I dont have to buy two boxes at 160 bucks just one to get started and 80 bucks and when money is hard to find say after a pandemic with World Record Dive...!!! in jobs and people to fill them and items arent being restocked because of a world wide shortages on all types of products from across the entire globe..!! thats when it helps out tremendously..!! it was an awesome experience I would recommend it to anyone.!! I could go on and on just... Thank you all SO much for being such friendly polite good people to do business with I know people that read this thinks Im exaggerating you have to find out yourself Im being serious..!!! speaking for myself and borrowing some of Arnold Schwarzeneggers famous last words to do so.. TRUST ME I WILL BE BACK !!
I had went to this location a couple years ago and was not impressed with the customer service so I didnt go back. I just recently found a new optometrist so I could receive an updated prescription. I called this location to see what my old prescription was because I wanted to compare to see how my vision had changed. They refused to tell me what the prescription was because it was expired. When I told my new optometrist this, she was confused and said she had never heard of an office refusing to tell someone their prescription. I had also reached out to Visonworks corporate and corporate had reached out to the location to get the prescription so they could send it to me. If corporate was reaching out to this location to get the prescription, obviously, this wasnt a Visionworks policy. However, even after following up 3x I never received my old prescription. Every time I would follow up with corporate they said they hadnt received a response from the store. I am so glad a found a new optometrist that provided good customer service. My new optometrist did request the prescription from this location and it wasn’t received so they requested it again. I am not sure if they ever actually sent it to my new optometrist after the second request.

The experience was great. The people behide the desk were alittle annoyed with the kids running around. But I felt like I was taken care of and they listened to what I was saying.
We had three vision exams done he explained my daughters and mine but my little boys was a little different he is 6 and is red green color blind he explained everything to me and reassured me he is ok and was great with him. We will all definitely go back and greatly appreciate their quick services they were so patient with us all. Staff was amazing with the kids trying on glasses and very sanitary. I read all reviews before I go to a place and they have 5 stars from me! Thank you

I was having trouble with some bluriness and decided to get my eyes checked. I had a very pleasant visit for the eye exam. There were plenty of frames to choose from!I would have preferred that I was told at the beginning of my visit that my insurance would not cover anything except the exam than after I had picked out frames and was ready to pay my part and leave.I picked up my glasses just less than 2 weeks. I had trouble seeing with this first pair. I tried to wear them the majority of my 100 day trial. About 82 days in, I take them back. I was lucky to have met Mariah (possibly the gm). She said I needed wire frames that could be bent to my face. Apparently, my ears sit a bit lower than the average persons ear. Therefore making my prescription not be where it needs to be in front of my eyes. Mariah figured this out right off the bat after asking me some questions about what was wrong with how I was seeing or not seeing.Mariah helped me pick out new frames that she thought was a good fit for my face. I really appreciate Mariah so much. She was wonderful. I felt like I was too dumb to wear glasses...and it was just how my frames were sitting on my face.Mariah is the greatest!!

They had a change in staff, MUCH friendlier.Got a new type of contact that works great for me! Has latest technology to scan your eyes instead of dilation, only $19. Great visit!
I was extremely pleased with this Dr.I hadnt been able to get my eyes checked in 5 years.After all of his testing he told me I had cataracts in both eyes! I was shocked.He said my right eye was worse than my left, and that I would need Lasik surgery in the next couple of years. I was upset about the news, but thanked him for telling me why I had trouble seeing.Without this Dr.s kindness and knowledge my vision would have continued to get worse! I love this Dr., and have no problem going back to see him next year!
They took me in quickly, and showed pressionalism. I was temped at the door to make sure I had no fever and everyone was masked up and in proper PPE. my glasses were even ready same day only 3 hours later. I definitely recommend.
I received my glasses and they give me the fishbowl effect. I was then told its because I got a certain lens, but nobody told me that lens would do that and if thats the case why is it even a option to buy a lens that doesnt work for my prescription. Just bad customer service on trying to get this resolved I got told thats just how they are going to be after asking how we could fix them when I didnt want to pay 150 dollars for something that may or may not fix my glasses.
The staff is super friendly ! I didnt have to wait long at all, and I saw one person constantly sanitizing and cleaning. A great visit 😊
I was very pleased with the exam process. However, I will never buy glasses from this company. They did not call to let me know my glasses were ready after I paid an extra almost $50 to get them next day. When I arrived to pick my glasses up the first time, they put the focal point of the lenses in the wrong location and I could not see. Then I came back later, and they had given me the wrong prescription. After messing up my glasses twice, I requested a refund. When I was given the refund, they shorted me $15. I had to wait there while the corrected their fourth mistake during the short time I was a customer. Nor did anyone tell me about the buy one get one free deal. I am highly disappointed and will be taking my business elsewhere. Even if it means going out of network. I would never recommend them to anyone!
I went the second time. The the first time, I met a lady doctor. She was very professional and kind and I appreciate her.Most recently, I met a male doctor. He conducted the testing with much more helpful instruction. I like his method. I will request him again.My main complaint is that the lenses are so expensive. I have friends who request the resulting prescription and go to Walmart or Costco and save serious money.I bought news glasses because I love the frames that you have so much. However, next time I should consider all options.

They are very patient, they eye doctor explained everything in great detail and answered all questions. I will be returning there and also recommending to everyone who asks me for a good eye care center.
I scheduled an online appointment for Friday and when I arrived, I was greeted as soon as I walked in, checked in, and was waiting on the doctor. Even though they were short staffed, they kept apologizing and thanking me for being patient. Only downfall was my lenses werent in stock so they will have to mail them to me, which is fine, no big deal. The doctor was very friendly and didnt make me feel like he needed to hurry to get me in and out. I have been going here for at least 6 years and they are fabulous!

I went in and ordered contacts on July 22nd. I had an incident that day were the lady told me there was just to many contacts for her to name. Luckily enough the location manager or regional manager not sure what he was tried to make things right . They pretty much wanted to pick which brand of contacts I wore. After getting that settled. Here I sit 23 days later still waiting on my contacts. There are some very nice employees in there, but obviously theres some in there that dont care. We all know it does not take 4 weeks for contacts to be ordered and delivered. Dont think Ill ever use Visionworks regardless the location.
Good experience overall. They follow CDC guidelines and fever check. Staff were friendly and helpful. Looking forward to picking up my new frames in a few days.

My wife and I have used the Richmond store for nearly ten years without a single issue,until this time! I have VSP insurance so my glasses have to be sent off, I get that. But after waiting nearly three weeks without any word I called the store yesterday and was told that yes indeed my glasses were finally ready. I told the young lady on the phone, whos name I unfortunately do no recall, that wed be there this afternoon to pick them up. This afternoon, after making the nearly hour long drive from our home in London to the store in Richmond, we were told that not only were my glasses not there, no one knew where they were and they made it very apparent that they couldnt care less whether I received them or not! They just kept repeating that their lab tech wasnt there. Their lab tech was never supposed to work on my glasses in the first place!!!! Lord knows when or even IF Ill ever see my glasses. I can promise them this much, theyve lost our business,theyll never again see a dime of our money, and I intend to make sure all our family, friends and coworkers how poorly weve been treated!!! Im a nice guy, ask anybody who knows me, but this is pathetic!!!! My work schedule wont allow me to take off and make another special trip up there, honestly dont know what Ill do now!!!!
Had an appointment Tuesday evening (6pm) for an eye exam and glasses. Took off work early just to make the appointment and got there on time just to be greeted with: I am so sorry but some kind of system is down and we are not able to verify your insurance. Hmmmm, Ive worked in the medical field for a long time and most places check benefits at the begining of the day and they are usually good for a month. That was lame if you ask me, they totally deserve a 1 star. Not going to reschedule and will go somewhere else. Ive used them before and I worked at their Distribution Center in San Antonio, Texas as a Quality Assurance Specialist and this location was a huge let down. 🙄

Wow, talk about an amazing environment. Those old, bad reviews are no longer accurate as new employees have entered. This place passes the vibe check 100 percent. Was able to cancel and reschedule next day appts three times. Employees are chill and Doc was too. Process was fast, even while a trainer employee did my prescreening test. They made my glasses in about 20 mintues and walked out with my glasses in about an hour total. Cant point out a specific employee as they all were super helpful, kind, and chill. See yall next eye exam!!!
Excellent service from booking my appt to picking up my completed glasses. My doctor was very pleasant and informative; he allowed me to ask lots of questions. Reception and sales were great as well. The entire insurance process was smooth and left no room for unanswered questions.

Very bad experience no one wanted to help me figure out why I was being told 2 different prices with in 2 weeks apart o e was 30 which I brought back today and now there telling me it 85 dollars and wont tell me why there getting paid twice once threw insurance and getting money from me also when my insurance should of covered it this ant the first time either
Doctor was great and Melissa was great . Couldn’t find glasses at pickup, origanially told I had 0 balance then at pickup they had made a mistake and I had a balance. Was told 3 completely different versions by 3 different staff. I don’t think any of them knew what they were doing . Just handed me my glasses, I had to ask if they provided a case with them . The doctor was great, Melissa very helpful also. Glasses worked out fine. Maybe inexperienced staff ?

Don’t go here if you have insurance. I went to take advantage of the buy one get one free, but because I had insurance it was buy one get one half off. What does it matter where the money comes from? I would have easily spent more that 500 out of pocket for my new specs, but never again will I go here. So if you have insurance, you should find somewhere else to Go.
Went there today for my husban . He broke his glasses and needs a pair today. Asked the lady for eye appointment. They are not taking any walkins. I truly understand that. We asked if his prescription was good. She said yes pick out a pair. We did. Was put at station 1. We waited forever for a lady to tell us his prescription ran out months ago. We wasted a trip and was lied to. Wont be back!!!!!
My husband and I were up in Richmond an we were past time for our checkup. I called Visionworks and They said they took walk-ins. When we arrived they took my husband and I straight back. We picked our frames out and they placed the order immediately. Great friendly staff, and The Dr was extremely nice and friendly as well. I highly recommend Visionworks.💖

Everthing went smooth even though it was my 1st time visit. Everyone was pleasant and the Dr. Was on point with his evaluation and recommendations. The price is also very reasonable.
Got my glasses, put them on they were not my script. The very rude clerk behind the counter informed me that it was and refused to help. Took them home, and they continued to be the wrong script, called the next day and took them back in.Had to force the clerk to check them, low and behold, the guy who ACTUALLY put them on was right, they were not my script. Dr. re-did my evaluation, and the script they had written down was completely wrong, had to wait even longer for glasses. Either my paperwork got mixed up with another customer or I dont know what.New glasses come in, still not correct, but they refuse to do anything about them.Dr suggested I get bifocals said no, he prescribed them anyway, cost an extra $100 for the glasses. Went to a new eye doctor, magnification is less then .05, Doctor said the only reason that he would have given me the bifocals is for the money.Lenses are horrible, they cracked after 3 months, not across the lenses, but at the point of the glasses where the arms are, little micro fractures that scatter light. The arms no longer fold they have stopped moving. The cheap plastic the lenses are made of cant be cleaned unless you use alcohol, no dry rubbing these things.Also, the last little bit. I bought the insurance when I got the glasses. They refuse to help, replace or repair anything that is wrong.Advice, Go somewhere else. Anywhere else.
Made an appointment quickly due to a medical eye issue. Was seen quickly and was out fast with issue resolved. So glad they were open on Sunday! Cost was very affordable and doctor was very knowledgeable.
The worker there names tia was extremely rude during the entire experience. When I asked for a printed copy of what my insurance would cover she got extremely upset and began to insult me to her co-workers. I then calmly walked away and found a spot to sit and read the document, the whole time she continued to insult me and repeated “I dare him to ask to speak to a manager, it doesn’t get higher than me!” Eventually I decided that I would leave due to the hostility of the worker. As I walked out I was then greeted by more insults and name calling me daring me to report her. I got a phone number to report her and then exited the building. The entire experience was unprofessional, and I feel that customers should not be threatened, insulted, and violently targeted for asking for a simple document and questioning certain prices as it is my right to understand the details of what I am paying for. I am a member of the military and give everyone respect including her, I did not deserve this.

Dr. Was great, staff needs experience and training in insurances and the biracial lady had the WORST attitude and because she couldnt comprehend my insurance coverages and what I was qualified for, I had to call and get my own AUTHORIZATION! Had I not I wouldnt have gotten contacts and she nearly swore on her first born my insurance didnt pay and I wasnt getting them. You would think my contact purchase affected her personally. She SHOULD NOT be working in any form of customer service. She acted as if she was mad at the world and it ruined my experience and the remainder of my day. I have never felt so disrespected in all my life! I will NEVER be back!
The Richmond store has come under new management since most of these reviews were posted. My visit to Visionworks happened in September 2016. I received excellent service from Manager Crystal and her staff. They were helpful, courteous and efficient and I was very pleased with the end result. I highly recommend them for your vision needs and I personally would not hesitate to return to them again.
Kierra was extremely helpful with my pair of glasses. Gentleman in the back was awesome as well. Highly recommend!
Dr Swartzentruber did an an awesome job getting the correct RX for my contacts I have ever had in the last 20 years. She took the time to ensure I was satisfied with the prescription before I left the office and tried several pairs to get the correct vision package for me. The price for the exam and contact supply was way less than I expected. I highly recommend her and Visionworks!! Thank you!!
I dont recommend this place. Poor customer service and rude employees. My moms had problems with her glasses ever since she got them a little over a year ago and she was told they keep that style of frames and she wouldnt have to worry if they needed replaced at some point(false advertising by the way). She works and is legally blind without her glasses. The earpiece broke. They got snotty with her and said they had never seen that style of frames before. Plus it would take 7 to 10 business days to get them fixed meaning my mother wouldnt be able to work because she would be blind without her glasses. What a joke of a place. They either need to teach their staff about customer service or fire a few employees and hire some that are not rude, snotty, and hateful. My poor mother got back to her car and broke down. They will never get my business. Im thinking seriously about posting on my Facebook page about this incident. I think everyone should know how hateful and rude the staff is there.

Don’t even bother to make an appointment if you try to come here. Not sure why they bother with them when they treat everyone as a walk in. I understand they need to take walk ins but I always thought appointments should be taken ahead of them? Anyway 1:30 appointment and now it’s after 3 and still waiting to be seen as walk in after walk in goes ahead. Never again will I come here and I would leave now if I didn’t have so much time invested.
I dont know of others experience but the store is under new management and my experience and that of my wifes has been one of the best ever in shopping for glasses. The manager Crystal is not only helpful but her kindness and friendliness is amazing. And she must have hired well as every member of the staff was kind, patient and abundantly helpful. I highly recommend this store!!!!

Visionworks was amazing to my kids and me! Lauren helped my oldest daughter (6 years old) pick out her glasses for school! She also helped during the exam while my 1 year old twins weren’t happy! Lauren took her time to show my daughter how to take her glasses off and on, clean them, and how to care for them! We will definitely be back!! Thank you for helping my daughter get over her fear of the eye doctor!
Called last week and made an appointment for 10:45 for my sons kindergarten eye exam. Got here at 10:30 and then sat in the waiting room. It is currently 12:10. When I complained, they told me they had double and triple booked appointments! Why the *;!: Do you even HAVE appointments?! If you had told me you were triple booked, I would gladly have gone somewhere else. This is ridiculous!
I had a wonderful experience at this office. Everyone was friendly and the process went very smooth. The lady (I forgot to catch her name) who taught me how to put contacts in was very patient and helpful, and very encouraging.
I’ve never done an online review before, but I just really felt like I needed to say something about our experience at Visionworks in Richmond Center. We went in at nearly closing time during the week, assuming we would just look really quick and come back the next day to order new frames and lenses for our son. Much to our surprise, they said they didn’t mind that it was closing time, they would be happy to help us and proceeded to give us the best customer service we’ve ever had at an optometrist! They looked up our insurance coverage and helped us get the best deal possible, and our son’s glasses were ready the very next day! We had to go back to have a screw replaced a month or two later, and they were once again so very helpful! They even took our son’s old glasses and adjusted them and cleaned them so that he has a backup pair that fits well.I really can’t say enough good things about this place. Fantastic!

My experience was great. The doctor who did my eye exam was very thorough and friendly. My glasses are a little cheaper quality than I expected for the price. They bend very easily.
I have had a great experience here at visionworks. The doctors are very knowledgeable and the employees are helpful. The waiting time can be a little long, but I have to remember that it is the time of the year when little ones have to do their school exams, and of course with them being so little and scared, it does take some time. I will return!! :)
Horrible customer service. Not competent or qualified. Waited on glasses so long because of back order this cracked that. Was initially given a cost way too high and when I brought it to their attention I got “oh I really don’t know how to do this”.. Have called the insurance to get the claim money back and money spent off flex spend. Don’t waste your time going here if you care about quality or care about your vision.

Horrible customer service. I came in to pick out two pair of glasses on Feburary 5th. I told the receptionist to mail my glasses by UPS and she told me it would take about a week. I called Wednesday, the 19th, and was told my glasses were in the office and they would mail them, called back today and they said my glasses are still sitting at the office!! I have to drive back to Richmond to pick up my glasses I shouldve had 2 weeks ago. Pathetic.
If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I rarely ever leave negative reviews, but after my experience yesterday and the buildup of bad experiences for over a year, Im done. The workers are rude, careless, smirky, condescending, ignorant, and negligent. They know absolutely nothing about what theyre doing and couldnt care less to do better. They would give me wrong information about my insurance each time I visited and would only check/correct themselves after me challenging them. I would make appointments and have to wait for an hour while walk-ins would be taken back. The straw that broke the camels back happened yesterday after going in to pick up contacts that were supposed to have been ordered in December. I made sure to get them ordered before my insurance was to expire. That was my intention, anyway. When I went in for my exam and to reorder contacts, they knew I was almost out of contacts, at that point. With my insurance, I wouldve gotten the contacts for almost nothing (about $200 without insurance). They sent me home with a trial pack and said your contacts will arrive in about 2 weeks. Well call you. Two weeks later, they called. I was confused when they handed me another box of trials. I told them that I was already given trials and was there to pick up my 60-day supply. Come to find out, they hadnt even ordered them... they had ordered MORE trials. Granted, the doctor was the one who told them to order trials. Again, he knew I was about to run out. What sense does that make!?? Considering my insurance has now expired and Ill have to pay full price for contacts AND for another eye exam somewhere else, you can imagine my rage. They did absolutely nothing to try and fix their mistake. Just kept giving each other what do we do with her and how do we get her to leave? looks and acting like I was the biggest inconvenience. They made it seem like it was my fault. I went there because of their longer hours, but its not worth it, people.
I picked up my glasses and when I went to work the florescent lights were horrible glare on them. I called them and the Lady told me to come back in after I ware them for a little bit. I just went back and now they are saying something about my insurance. I have great insurance now they cant fix them. I wanted anti glare. I didnt care if it cost me more. Now Im stuck with glasses I cant ware. The manager or assistant manager is the original one who wrote up my order. I will not be back for new glasses here. I will be choosing another place. Thank you very much for nothing. I had a problem with another lady in 2018 when I got my original glasses. I should have known better to come back . Everyone was nice but obviously not knowledgeable in insurance and selling glasses.
I made a appointment for my son for an eye exam at 2:45, he arrived at 2:30. He said there was 7 people in front of him when he got there so he told them he had to leave by 4:00 to be at work at 5, we live an hour away. So now at 4:00 he has to leave without seeing the doctor. So they told him he could just use his script thats over a year old! Horrible rude people and so Ill definitely being calling the corporate office on Monday!

My appointment was at noon; I did not see the optometrist until around 2 p.m. It was a cursory exam, as if he was overwhelmed. When I returned to have new lenses installed in my frames, I was told that would take at least an hour. The person who checked me in called me “sweetie” at least twice, which just absolutely grated on my nerves. No one offered to check my new lenses and their setting in the frames.I suspect that the staff did not complete the insurance procedure correctly - I paid considerably more for the appointment and new lenses than I have in the past.The problem seems to be the lack of qualified optometric staff. The office takes walk-ins, which seems like a bad business model for this kind of service. I definitely will not go back.
I called for a last minute appointment (8/16/18) because my sons glasses were scratched beyond repair. With school starting next Wednesday he needed new glasses ASAP so we went in got a new eye exam, picked out some frames that he loved, and we pick them up today. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and now myself, husband, sister and neice have appointments.
Extremely friendly staff. My first visit and there’s no need to go anywhere else. Very pleased.
Overall decent. But dont understand the point of scheduling an appointment when they still see you based on the time of your arrival.
The people here are great! They went above and beyond for us! Well worth the drive and I will continue to come back to this location!
I arrived at 10:25 for a annual eye exam and to order new contacts. After two hours of waiting I was finally called back to the doctor without even a look of sympathy. The page says customers usually spend 10-45 min here COMPLETELY INCORRECT. If you have the option of going to another eye place I highly recommend anywhere but here.

I truly don’t understand why their rating is low, because my overall experience was great! I was a walk-in, first time patient and was finished with everything within an hour! Dr. Rebecca was exceptional in explaining everything to me, her directions clear and easily understandable. She was kind, efficient, and very down to earth. I HIGHLY recommend Vissionworks in Richmond to anyone looking for a good optometrist!
Was very satisfied with my appointment. From someone that hates going to doctors and have had some horrible experiences in the past... The staff was very friendly and helpful, it was quick and painless and a all around good experience here...
Best experience ever greeted when I entered the door, staff was friendly and answered all questions, did not hurry me at all. Can not say enough will never go anywhere else.
Time spent waiting was minimal, associates were much nicer than prior visit.
To the extent of my dissatisfaction I cannot put in words briefly. Friendly but inept staff, they know what words to use when a problem comes their way, they just have no skills on how to ACTUALLY correct the problem. Slow service, dont return calls ( although the doctor did), advised me that since my sons prescription expired 8 days previously I couldnt get even one extra pair of contacts to get him through a weekend academic competition and just kept trying to schedule me for an appointment that I repeatedly told 3 different staff members I couldnt meet as my son was OUT of town. The reason I was short on contacts to start with is that they couldnt sufficiently fill my order 3 months previously and I called multiple times to get the remainder I needed and they didnt have them; for over a 6 weeks! Management is weak, disorganized, and lacks understanding. I will not return.

I have come to the realization that the appointments are a gimmick like it has been said in other reviews...I cant tell you anything else, Im still waiting....🙄Ok after the wait, the staff was very pleasant to deal with.
This place is a joke. If you have money, go to Lenscraft, if not, go to Walmart. The people at Visionworks dont have experienced with eyeglass. My lens dont have correct prescription, and it takes them 3 weeks to remanufacture it. Finally, I have to return it and waste 4 weeks. Plus, poor custom service and rude service, they dont care about it at all.
